The unexpected expectation- short story
Julia started crying the second Dr. Myers told her the news. She didn't really have time to sit around and had to make time in her busy schedule to squeeze him in. She was definitely not prepared for this and couldn't fully wrap her head around what he just said. It was impossible. She was nearly forty years old and they've tried for years but to no avail. Now that they made peace with it and both had successful businesses, now it happens.
What in the world was George going to say? They've hardly seen each other in the last three months and now this. Dr Myers smiled and handed her a prescription.
"Don't worry Julia just keep on breathing. Everything will be alright. You just need to drink your vitamins, and come and see me again in four weeks."
Julia nodded. She felt as if she was floating and nearly walked into the door on her way out.
The driver was waiting for her downstairs and opened the door for her. She had no expression on her face and stared into dead space. She had to get back to the office for an important meeting, and shoved her own feelings aside. George was only coming back the following evening and she didn't know how she was going to sprung the news on him.
This was what George always wanted but were they really in a place to have a baby now, after all these years?
Her meeting went well, and she sent her assistant to fill the prescription. She drank the first tablets and lay down on her couch in the office. No wonder she had been feeling so tired these last few weeks. All the signs were there, but she wasn't actually looking for any signs.
She had been overworked and thought that the late nights were just catching up on her, but she never in a million years expected this news today.
Julia went home a few hours earlier than usual, and gave her assistant a much deserved weekend off. She had to wrap her head around the whole idea and prepare for what she was going to tell George.
She arrived home and took a quick shower, before warming up some soup for dinner. Her body was still in shock and she couldn't stomach anything else. After eating she grabbed a blanket and curled up on the couch. This was something she hadn't done in years, and it felt refreshing just to relax for a change. She watched a sad movie and cried her heart out before falling asleep on the couch right there in front of the television.
