Major depressive disorder is a very popular serious mood disorder. This disorder brings about a number of severe symptoms that affect a person's emotions, thought process, and how one handles daily activities, such as working, sleeping, eating etc, thus for one to be diagnosed with depression, the aforementioned symptoms must be present for at least two weeks.

Major depressive disorder happens to be one of the most popular mental disorders already existing in the world today and results of current research shows that this form of depression could stem from a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors. Clinical depression occurs in children as well as adolescents, although it sometimes presents with more prominent irritability than low mood as a lot of chronic mood and anxiety disorders in adults begin as high levels of anxiety in children. It could happen at any age, but often begins in adulthood. For midlife or older adults, it could co-occur with other serious medical illnesses, such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer etc and these medical conditions often gets worse when depression is present to the extent that medications taken for these physical illnesses may bring about some side effects that just adds up to depression.

So what are the symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder?!
One clear attribute of depression is that not everyone who is depressed exhibits every symptom as some people exhibits just a few symptoms, while some exhibit a whole lot. However, If you have been experiencing or exhibiting some of the underlisted signs or symptoms nearly every day, for at least a period of two weeks, you should make plans to see a doctor because there is a ninety-nine percent (99%) chance that you might actually be suffering from depression

• Consistent sad, anxious, or empty mood
• Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism
• Restlessness, irritability
• Consistent physical symptoms that refuse to respond to treatment
• Decreased energy, fatigue, being "slowed down"
• Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions
• Insomnia, early morning awakening or oversleeping
• Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness
• Appetite and/or weight loss, or overeating and weight gain
• Thoughts of death or suicide, suicide attempts

There are a number of tips once could adopt to help oneself or a loved one during

treatment of major depressive disorder and they include:

Endeavour to be active and exercise yourself

Endeavour not to keep to yourself, let others help you

Expect your mood to improve gradually, not immediately

Setting realistic goals for yourself

Concerning important decision making, it is best advised that should be postponed till the individual feels better

Endeavour to spend time with other people

Discuss decisions with others who know you well and have a more objective view of your situation

Continue to educate yourself about depression

Major depressive disorder or Clinical depression is basically triggered by the same factors that bring about depression but when the normal become matured, it becomes a mental issue and then you become a threat to yourself and others. So help yourself and those around you; if you notice any symptoms of depression or feel out of place, talk to someone about it and visit your doctor.
