Homemade Hibiscus Tea (Zobo) | How I made Hibiscus Tea with just 5 Ingredients | Nigerian Zobo
Hello guys, today I'll be teaching and showing you how I make my Hibiscus tea with just five (5) ingredients.
My name is Gift and I am a Nigerian who lives in Nigeria.
The Hibiscus tea is called 'Zobo' in Nigeria.
Zobo is the name given to the popular drink made from the Roselle plant. Roselle is a species of Hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) native to West Africa. The proper English name for Zobo is hibiscus tea.
Zobo is highly nutritious and medicinal. According to scialert.net, "It was observed that dark red zobo drink has the highest percentage of Vitamin C (7.5 mg g-1), calcium (4 ppm) and ash (15.5%) content, the bright red recorded a high value in only magnesium (13.25 ppm) and the wine however, recorded the highest value in sodium (50.67 ppm), potassium (235 ppm), iron (1.17 ppm)."
Below are the ingredients and steps I took in preparing the drink.
Dried Hibiscus flower
Ginger
Garlic
Cucumber
Cola Flavour (Sweetener)
Wash your Hibiscus plant to remove dirt and put inside a big pot.
Wash your ginger and garlic, slice and put them inside the pot too
Wash and slice the cucumber and put inside the pot
Pour water into the pot of Hibiscus flower, ginger, garlic and cucumber mixture. Make sure the water is way above the mixture level.
Place on fire and allow to boil properly for about 20 minutes.
Take down from the fire and allow to cool down.
use a food sieve to filter the mixture (Separate the liquid from the chaff)
The liquid is your Tea, add the cola flavour to taste and stir.
Package in smaller container. You can refrigerate to be cool. Your Tea is ready
