FACTS ABOUT MICRO TEACHING.
Micro teaching skills:-
Teaching, as a closed system of social interaction, can provide avenues for students to meet with teachers for the purpose of giving and receiving instruction. In this process the teacher must understand that learning is a function of the learner and so the teacher must develop appropriate skills that will facilitate learning. These skills can be developed during the pre-service and in-service training of such teachers.
Micro teaching was developed to provide in-service and pre-service teachers with safe and realistic situations to practice and experiment with various teaching skills. The major purpose of Microteaching is to given student teachers the experience of teaching before they actually face a class of children, students or learners. It is an easy beginning to teaching.
Micro teaching is a "real" teaching. It is not stimulated teaching. The student teacher teaches students but not the whole class of students. It is less complex. The student teacher does not bother himself/herself of classroom organization and management or discipline. Micro teaching focuses on specific tasks. The student supervisor can control the practice. Tje student teacher has almost immediate feedback from the supervisor, fellow students, video tape and the students.
Micro teaching is usually defined from three dimensions:-
- Safe Practice:-
- The student teacher has a chance to "try-outs" with real students without having to worry about negative grading and failures.
- Teaching technique:-
- This dimension allows the students teacher to break down a complex topic/concept into more easily understood concepts following a systematic approach before it can be tried out as a whole.
- Immediate feedback
- Student feedback
- Supervisor feedback
- Videotape feedback
Immediate feedback will allow the student teachers to learn from the critiques the strengths and weakness of the lesson.
Essentially, then in a given Microteaching setting, the skills to be practiced must Ne decided upon in advance. It involves proactive planning. A students teacher teaches a group of three to six students a short lesson of about 5-10 minutes duration. Such a lesson may be video taped, audio, played-nack and constructively criticized by the supervisor and other students.
The students teacher can re-plan and re-teach the lesson to another group of students after viewing himself/herself and integrating the criticism to ensure a good performance. In this process the student-teacher can evaluate himself or herself and thus increase in his or her learning and subsequent practice after graduation or during the actual teaching practice.
