Trek to USA. First steps

The very first @thewritersblock meetup happens in a few days time. I am traveling from England and it will take me three flights to reach Gatlinburg in Tennessee. My first flight is from Birmingham airport to Dublin, but it is not due to take off until just after 8am tomorrow. The earliest train in the morning from my home town would not reach the airport until 7am. So I decided to catch the last train tonight and to spend the night at the airport.

I caught my first train just after 10pm into Birmingham Snow Hill Station. Aided by my Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch, I was guided on a 6 minute walk to New Street station. Here's a pretty church I passed, softly lit by amber lights.

A short while later I approached the station.

It has been a few years since I visited New Street station and it has had a major overhaul. What was once a dark and dingy area has been transformed into a bright welcoming place.

I swiftly found my platform and boarded my train to the airport. Once I arrived I caught a shuttle into the airport proper.

I am unable to check in until the early morning as the Aer Lingus desk is closed and, because of mobility issues, I need them to check me in rather than do it at the self service kiosk. Luckily a coffee shop is open and I am currently sipping on a tall steaming hot cup of coffee. No doubt this is the first of many tonight as I wait until around 6 in the morning for the desk to open up. Until Dublin, keep Steemin' on.
