Plagiarism is stealing. What is stealing? Stealing is taking something that doesn't belong to you from the owner without their knowledge or permission. You don't only steal money, books, phones etc ideas, creative works, words can also be stole. Plagiarism is an act of taking an idea, creative work, songs, words from the original owner without seeking permission or giving credit to the author and posing as your own.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

According to Oxford dictionary in English, " plagiarism is an act of plagiaring something that have been plagiarized.

plagiarized means to copy another person's ideas,words or work and pretend that they are your own". Often times, it is hard to get people ideas, words, work out of your own piece, most especially when you are reviewing their work.

This is why the use of quotation marks ("...") and citation hepls bring their work into your's in a safer way. When you are taking a word, sentence or even a page all you have to do is quote it and give recognition to author, the book, page you are referencing. This helps anyone reading your work, knows that this particular idea belong to somebody.
Plagiarism is a serious offence and it is punishable by the court, a persons who engages in plagiarism is a plagiarist. Most often people fall victims of plagiarism because they don't know the types of plagiarism.

Types of plagiarism

  • Global plagiarism:

This is mind- lifting, copying word for word from another person work to your work.

  • Auto plagiarism:

Even if you are quoting yourself from another work, follow the rules.

  • Mosaic plagiarism:

This is when a person takes a piece of ideas from different authors to make his work.

  • Inaccurate plagiarism:

It can be tempting to take all the praises form a piece of work but a plagiarism if that work is done with the help of others. Everybody involve must be recognized.

  • Accidental plagiarism:

Quoting a work is as important as cite ie, mention the name of the author and the book your quote, also don't summary take the word as it is.

Why avoid plagiarism

  1. It can led to jail sentence
  2. It can bring shame and tanish one's reputation.
  3. Payment of fines.
  4. In institution, it can lead to supsension or even expulsion.

Avoid plagiarism in steemit

  • Always state your source and cite it.
  • Always quote ideas, word that are not yours
  • Make sure to use plagiarism checker on your work before displaying it on your steemit blog. If your work have been posted on other platforms don't use the steem exclusive tag.
