How I was peeling cassava

It another exciting moment I traveled to my village for the Christmas holiday expecting to stay through the new year holiday as well.

In this little period of time, a lot of things as happened around us, I have done so many things. So I want to use this medium to express how I spent my today in the village.

Morning Time

While it was still morning, as a young and vibrant boy I woke up from the sleep prepare myself and went to fetch water for the family, I had to fetch much today because of what we had to do for the day.

After fetching so much water using a bicycle so it will be faster and reliable, I finished fetching the morning water, but before then my cousins had already cleaned the house.

The purpose of me fetching much water was because of to watch cassava which we planned to process today.

So after I finished fetching water, I had to start peeling the cassava which took me more than an hour to finish all the cassava because it was really much.

After I finished peeling, I had to watch them to be clean, keep them to dry up and then I arranged it into wheelbarrow in order for me to take it to grinding place.

It was quite challenge because it seems to be a while I did this work but I had to do it because we had little garri in the house which is not going to be enough for the family.

Afternoon Time

It was early 1pm I finished peeling and arranging the cassava into the wheelbarrow for easy carriage.

On my arrival to the grinding place, I discovered that there was another woman who was also there for the same purpose. While waiting for the boy who's going to grind it, i walk round the environment to take a look at some equipment and also take some pictures of them.

The boy arrived after 5-10min and we waited for the first person who was there before us to finish her grinding before we went ahead with our own.

After the first woman had finished her own, it was our own turn to grind, we had to agree on a specific price which he is going to charge us. After some time of argument based on the price he finally accepted to grind for us from the price of 2,000 naira to 1,200 naira.

After grinding we had to mix the cassava with some red oil, and put them into a bag for drying.

We used jark to press it to a drying stage where by all the water was dried up from the cassava, I carried them back to the house which we are going to fry it tomorrow.

It's good to see that you've positioned yourself well in your hometown. Home sweet home, a place where cultivation and harvest is at its peak. I hope you'll bring some cassava flakes back when school resumes.... Thanks for sharing.
