Reverse Speed ~ Fun times indeed!

in #splinterlands5 years ago (edited)

This week's Splinterlands battle challenge theme is Reverse Speed.

I love the reverse speed rule, it is probably one of my favorite rules.
Today I participated in a Gold Foil Bronze Tournament sponsored by Splinterlands and came across a battle with reverse speed against @goldninja. This was a bronze tournament so most of my cards were handicapped to lower levels, this strategy also works well with level 3 or 4 summoner.

The battle can be found here

Rules were Fog of War and Reverse Speed

With a 26 mana cap

Fog of War: Means that monsters loose the sneak and snipe abilities.
Reverse Speed: Means monsters with the lowest speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.

Summoner Selection:

For my strategy I normally pick either Tyrus or Daria, if the mana cap was 28 or above I would have picked Daria and used truthspeaker for the armor bonus. I normally need an armor bonus for my strategy so I used Tyrus in this battle.

Monster Selection

1rst Position: I choose the Clay Golem because of the 1 movement speed, he dodges so many things in reverse speed and the 3 melee attack that hits everything. The 8 health combined with the void ability makes him a great tank, combined with Tyrus(or Truthspeaker) armor ability and viola you have an awesome tank. As I have pointed out in my previous posts; I love my chain golem as a tank, but its 2 speed makes it a little more vulnerable and at level 1(bronze) it doesn't have void.

2nd position: I used my Luminous Eagle for this position because it has reach and the highest attack with reach of all the available cards. Starting at level he has 1 armor of his own which is useful. The 3 speed is in the middle so it doesnt'always hit and doesn't always miss.

3rd position: I put Cave Slugs in the third position because it has opportunity and has a speed of 1 so it will be hitting everything it attacks. I love the opportunity ability as my slugs target the weakest monster first and hit them with a 3 melee attack that mows down opponents quickly. The 5 health makes a decent backup, backup tank.

4th Position:
I choose Silversield Bard for my 4th position because I had 1 mana left over after picking my other monsters and wanted to utilize her cleanse ability and make 1 more monster in the way of my 2 healers. Also her 1 health plus 1 armor makes her a great meat shield for any opportunity attacks.

5th Position:
I choose the Armorsmith for position 5 because he heals the armor of my team and needs to be protected because he is a little vulernable with no armor of his own. This ruleset makes it easier to protect him because of the Fog of War. I love the armorsmith because he is like having a 2nd healer on my team except he doesn't just target the tank, he targets whichever monster needs the armor the most.

6th Position
I put my Divine Healer last so she wouldn't take any damage but ranged, she keeps my main tank from dying by healing it every turn.

Conclusion:

My strategy worked very well for this battle as the silversheild bard was my only casulty.

I beat a player that is ranked 1000 points great than me.

Did not know Bard indeed could be useful. Love how the slug will trump other opportunity monsters when in reverse speed battles. Slug definitely a staple in those kind of matches. Great show of the cards on this post by the way ;)
