@splinterlands is more than just a game you can play... its made up of non fungible tokens. Each card has a immutable card ID number and if you own the private keys to the account that has that card, you own the NFT.
Some Splinterlands players like myself play the game but also treat it as a speculative investment (aka an investment where a catastrophic loss all the way to zero is accepted ahead of time).
Ive always had a simple strategy for investing into these NFTs.
A: Buy the scarcest card.
B: Buy all of them (or as many as I could get my hands on).
In the last week, this strategy has paid off handsomely.
Recently there has been an massive uptick in volume in the monster market:

This surge in market activity in the scarcest cards in the game combined with that large transaction has created a bunch of excitement in the market and the lower priced gold foil legendary cards (GFL) that were still for sale for $200-$300 skyrocketed for a listed prices well over $1000!
Note that most the the most expensive cards are the ones that only have 1 available on the market. This is because when there is only 1 card available that card owner can list it for... whatever they want.
