Se7en (film): top film of the 90's

in #films7 years ago

So after i got upset about Romeo + Juliet being on a list of the best movies of the 90's I found another list and not only was that piece of crap not on the list, but one of my personal favorites was in the top 10. So here we go.

Se7en is a great film for a lot of reasons but the main reason I liked it is because it is not terribly predictable and even though I am quite sure a lot of you know the ending, please do not spoil it for those out there that haven't had the pleasure of seeing this wonderful film yet.

The story is about Detective Somerset (Morgan Freeman) is a soon-to-be retired police detective who gets partnered up with David Mills (Brad Pitt) who is a bit of a hothead, young, and inexperienced. They end up co-investigating a series of grizzly murders that are themed after the seven deadly sins. The person committing these crimes is extremely intelligent and covers his tracks perfectly, at times leading the police to false conclusions that actually exposes the location of his next victim.

ya'll know what i'm talking about

The killer always stays a few steps ahead of the police and Detective Somerset (Freeman) based on how close he is to retirement doesn't actually want the case but it is through his experience and attention to detail that helps lead the chase, so to speak. This combined with the aggressive nature of Mills (Pitt) keeps the pace of the film moving at a entertaining speed.

This is one of the best crime-thriller movies that the US has ever produced in my opinion and is a must see for anyone out there that appreciates the genre. This movie will haunt you for a long time after you see it, and in that regard it is quite similar to the Korean crime-thrillers that I think are the best in the world. If you haven't seen this movie yet you are doing yourself a disservice by not doing so. I would say you need to find access to this gem as soon as possible.

Hey gooddream. I remember this one and you are right. It deserves to be in a must watch list. Haven't seen it for years and will watch again. Seven was good. Happy New Year and have some good travels.

Definitely one of my favorite 90s movies! I remember watching it, for the first time, on VHS, at a highschool birthday party. It left an impact. I must have been around 15 years old back then. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it in cinema.

The 90s is probably the decade I have seen most films of, as I'm a kid from the early 80s so I have loads of great memories to 90s movies.

These are a couple of dozen of 90s films that I loved:

Are you on Letterboxd too?

P.S. Happy new year!

never heard of letterboxd, but i followed the link and will check it out after breakfast :) Thanks!

Good call! I really enjoyed this movie when I was younger. It was a bit disturbing at times, true, but it was definitley worth watching!

yeah, it is pretty graphic. So certain people should probably be aware of that. Those sorts of things appeal to me but it is important to note that it is not over the top graphic gore-fest like Saw for example. :)

I am a big fan of Morgan Freeman and his films and when he combine himself with Brad Pitt a talented actor to produce a film that works on crime and intelligence gathering then it is surely going to be a blockbuster film to watch . I will look for this film and definately watch it to entertain myself , well analyze film by you @gooddream

The ending was totally unexpected and surprising.
Great movie.
Well deserved to be in the top 10

I have not had the chance to see this movie yet! you really excited me to see him, anyway, Brad Pitt's films are always beautiful.

Great film. Not sure if I think it’s the best of the entire decade, but I don’t have any nominations at this point. I am old enough to have seen this in a theater, actually.

It was darker in there than even normal theaters. It’s a dark film, not just in subject matter, but in terms of light exposure.
