When you see a soldier, an athlete, gymnastics, or a teacher, what normally comes to your mind, Discipline right? Discipline is so important! We all need discipline to be successful in whatever we do, and to achieve our goals. Parents need to Discipline their children, Undeniably this is hard work, we know parents love and always want to protect their children, but at the same time they have to discipline them to grow in the right direction.

HOW DO YOU VIEW DISCIPLINE?

I believe Discipline is not a synonym of punishment, it means to teach, guide and educate. It involves correcting a child's misbehaviour. It also includes instilling moral training that will help children to learn how to make wise decisions and good choices in the first place.
Discipline is not anywhere connected with cruelty or abuse.

HAVE YOU BEEN DISCIPLINED BEFORE OR HAVE YOU EVER DISCIPLINED SOMEONE?

Yes, I've been disciplined many times since my childhood and even as an adult, and I also used to discipline someone this is because we are imperfect humans and tend to make mistakes which sometimes we may not realize until someone pointed them out and maybe give us correction or in other words discipline.

My parents trained and instill discipline in me at a very tender age, likewise my religious leaders and teachers, I did not enjoy it, I used to see it as punishment but I grew up to appreciate it, because of the kind person it helps me to become. They guided me to grow in the right direction and today I'm a responsible adult. As a mother, and teacher I used to discipline both my children and school children, Sometimes, I used to correct my friends and loved ones and they used to do the same with me this is Discipline.

DO YOU CONSIDER DISCIPLINE AS LOVE OR HATRED DESPITE HOW IT IS GIVEN?

As I stated before discipline means love, it means to teach, train, educate and correct though sometimes punishment may come if it is done with love and self-control it will yield good results because the one being disciplined will sense it as love.
Abuse, cruelty, harsh words and constant criticism is the opposite of Discipline and we should guard against them.

DO YOU THINK DISCIPLINE IS BENEFICIAL TO KIDS?

Very very important! Undisciplined children will be unruly which will exhaust the parents, and parents will give inconsistent direction which confuses the kids. But on the other hand loving balance discipline can train children's thinking and shape their moral character. It helps them to feel secure as they grow to responsible adulthood.

There's a wise Proverbs that foolishness bounds in the heart of a child but it's discipline that will remove it, accepted children are delightful, thoughtful and kind yet they tend to do foolish things therefore they need discipline, so parents don't hold it back from them.

Parents need to give corrections in love, not when they are angry or feel frustrated, they should be consistent and set clear rules for their children, warning them that certain forms of Discipline will result if they misbehave and parents should make sure they follow through.

YOUR PERSONAL ADVICE TO THOSE WHO GIVE DISCIPLINE AND TO THOSE WHO RECEIVE IT.

Love should be the foundation and the motivation for discipline. For those who give discipline don't be cruel, or abusive. Do not resort to constant criticism, hurtful sarcasm, or harsh words this can injure the other party. Always choose your words wisely, commend where the person normally performed well then you can point out where he/she went wrong and offer the necessary corrections.

To the recipient, be humble and take the advice, don't see discipline as hatred but for what it truly is, love and make the needed changes.

Parents Sometimes your patience might be stretched to the limit, don't discipline that particular time, because anger-based punishment is normally excessive, abusive and counterproductive. And punishment motivated by anger is not Discipline it's loss of self-control. So discipline with love and self-control.

Dear @goodybest mam, You have mentioned to us that you believe discipline is not synonymous with punishment but rather to teach, instruct and educate. You also mentioned that it involves correcting a child's bad behavior and that involves developing moral training that will help children learn how to make wise decisions and make good choices.
You said discipline is nowhere associated with cruelty or abuse which I totally agree with you. You have presented us your post in a very nice way, I thank you for that. Good luck to you.
