My Youth Service Journey: Episode 1

in Steem Sri Lanka2 years ago

Good day awesome steem community. It's been a while on this space.

So today, I'll be telling you all about my journey to Katsin state in the Northwest of Nigeria for my one year national service. I left on the 28th of July, 2021. I boarded a bus from Port Harcourt to Zaria for the 2day journey. It was my first time traveling such long distance and we travelled through the night. I was engrossed in my book until someone walked up to me and enquired if I was heading to the camp at Katsina too and I said yes and it turned out that there were about 6 of us who were heading to the same camp. We straight away became friends. We talked and discussed and shared our expectations all throughout the night in the bus.

So from Zaria, we boarded a taxi that was to take us to the NYSC Orientation Camp Mani, Katsina State. It was my first time in the northern part of Nigeria so I didn't really know what to expect. We made our way into the camp and we were searched by soldiers at the gate before we were admitted. Next, we proceeded to the venu for the Covid-19 testing. I saw others undergoing the test and I was scared because I saw how people reacted to the stuff that was put into their noses. Finally it got to my turn and it was done and I prayed earnestly until the result came out negative. We proceeded get beds and move to our hostels. I was too tired from the 2day journey that I couldn't capture all these on camera. I had my bath, got some food and moved straight to bed.

Stay tuned as I'll bring you more on this journey in my next post
