Grapthar's Song of the Day: The Beatles 'Rain'
The Beatles - Rain
It has been over a week
since the last Beatles tune, so I figured it's about time, especially with the multiple Beach Boys posts, lol. It only seems fair. In case somehow you are unaware, the Beatles were formed in 1960, and by 1962 had established their permanent lineup of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Their growth as a band was very similar to the Beach Boys, beginning with teen-pop songs, but over time becoming more and more mature in their songwriting, experimenting with all kinds of cutting edge production and harmonic concepts, and helped propel rock and roll into a true art form.
Listen to Rain by The Beatles here.
This song was originally recorded
during the Revolver sessions, along with Paperback Writer, though neither appeared on the album. Instead, they were released as an A and B side single (Paperback Writer was the single). The bass line is really awesome on this track, it drags behind the quite a bit in the break, but it works really well and makes for a great effect. Certain parts of the song utilize a mixolydian scale with a b7 instead of the diatonic major feeling of the rest of the tune, which gives it a bit of an Indian/eastern sort of effect, something they were very much experimenting with around this time.
Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
