Grapthar's Song of the Day: Wire '12XU'

Wire - 12XU
Wire is a really interesting
band, initially forming in 1976 in London, England. They began as a punk band, but over time began to experiment with more harmonic and production ideas, and expanded their sound as the "post-punk" began to form in the late '70s and early '80s. Although they didn't have any particular mainstream success, many of the bands of the late '80s post-hardcore/emo/alt-rock scene cite them as a major influence.
Listen to 12XU by Wire here.
This song is from their
debut full length, Pink Flag, which was released in 1977 and is a great example of their earlier, punker side. I originally discovered this song as a cover by Minor Threat, and didn't learn until a number of years later that Wire wrote the original. I love vocals here, the rhythm that is applied to each line really drives things along, and makes the song catchy and a definite ear worm.
