THE DIARY GAME: 03/09/2020: MY COUSIN’S TRADITIONAL WEDDING
Dear diary,
I took off from work to go for my cousin’s traditional wedding in Akwa Ibom State. It was a fun filled day.
Me(left) and the groom (right)
I left Port Harcourt by 8 a.m. with my brother, Ifiok who drove, accompanied by his wife, Eno. Normally, it’s a two hours journey, but the road is really bad.
At Akwete in Abia state, a particular spot was blocked and we needed to look for alternative road. In the process, we missed road. There was no internet service for google map.
Me and Mr Anthony, an old friend I met there.
Luckily we saw a security guy that showed us the right road finally. We spent extra 30 minutes to get back to the main road and continued the journey.
We got to my village, Nkwot Ikono in Etim Ekpo and waited for my cousin, family and villagers that was to join for the ceremony. We arrive the village by 10:20 a.m. and ate ekpangnkukwu, prepared by my elder sister.
I used the time of waiting for everybody to gather village stuff that I would take back to Port Harcourt.

I got plantain. Afang leaves, paw=paw, palm oil and oranges. By about 2 p.m. we started going for the traditional marriage venue at Afak Esabg in Abak Local Government, still in Akwa Ibom.
It was a 20 minutes’ drive on a convoy of 6 cars. As we arrived, all eyes were on us as everyone in the wife’s village had been eargerly waiting for our arrival.
The ceremony started with the MC calling people on the high table. The band set gave a song thereafter for the groom to be brought out with a lot of dance. It was such a beautiful scene.
I got to meet a lot of old school mates. People that I have not seen for years were all there. We greeted, discussed and a lot of exciting moment.
Our time was running out, so we left by 4 p.m. to start coming back to Port Harcourt.
I got home really late, around 10:15 p.m. because my brother had to stop by his wife’s place to pick some items.
That’s my Thursday diary.
