Location

Ta Hien Street (aka Beer street in Hanoi) is a place located in Old Quater, near Hoan Kiem lake. Tạ Hiện street is one of 36 streets of Old Quater.

Nowadays it specializes in drinks and becomes the most attractive destination with the young at the weekend. There are a lot of bars, pubs with loud EDM music and quite a few street restaurants where you can sit down on the street to have some bottles of beer. Drinking on the street while talking to each other is a culture of Vietnamese people.

The Atmosphere

We park the bike outside Old Quater and walk to Tạ Hiện Street because it is prohibited from driving in this street at the weekend.

As usual, It is really crowded, like a sea of people. It is quite hard to squeeze through the crowd but honestly, atmosphere here is so great and excited. The sound of laughter, the voice mix with the music. I can feel the beat of life in this city.

The food and drink

You can find a lot of street restaurants with similar or even same food and drink. So it is not really important to know exactly which restaurant is the best. You just need to find out the seat that you feel the most comfortable to grab some beer with your friends. :)

Some typical foods here are fried fermented pork sausage (aka "nem chua rán"), fermented pork sausage (aka "nem chua"), chips, grilled birds, peanut, ... The price is really reasonable but just be careful with grilled birds, you should ask for the price before ordering because sometimes I order it with just $1,5, but sometimes in another restaurant, it goes up to $7.

And the most popular drink here is beer, of course. There are so many types of beer here: local beer such as Hanoi beer, Saigon beer, Truc Bach beer (I highly recommend you to drink local beer since it's really good and cheap). Besides, there are also some beers are really well known in the world such as Heineken, Tiger, Budweiser,... with much higher price. Just say that while Hanoi beer is just 1$/bottle, Budweiser is 4$/bottle.

There are not only street restaurants but also a lot of bars and pubs located on this street. So after drinking beer at the restaurant, we would never go back home right away. We follow the music and get into the bar. My favorite bar is "1990 Le Theatre", always.

We need to pay $3,5 for a ticket per one. And they provide us with one free beer. We go inside and enjoy the music, and continue drinking. You can enjoy the music and the nightlife of the youth in Hanoi with just $3,5 or order more beer and pay extra. Normally, the price of beer in the bar is around $4-$6.

If you travel to Hanoi but miss this place, it will be considered as if you have ever been to Hanoi. I can say that here is the best place for grabbing some beer and enjoy the nightlife of local.
