Freewrite Prompt: Burning

in #freewrite6 years ago (edited)

Continuing from my post from yesterday Freewrite Prompt: Puzzle, @iamjadeline is right that I could continue with today's prompt.

The king, his royal brother, the queen each have their own secrets burning within them. Some were eating them up from within while some fueled them to lay down their lives for another life.

The king who was burning with jealousy, revenge and insecurities, took a very bitter and painful road for himself and dragged along everyone else he could. He was angry with his parents' biased love for his brother, which put him in a place of receiving the curse of whoever sits on the throne wouldn't live beyond 40 years old. He strived his best to prove that this curse is overturned by him, only to be motivated by his burning rage within to seek revenge on his brother and his queen who betrayed him. However, he himself was the one who actually separated them when he purposely decreed for her to marry him and not loving her, just to show his brother he could not have her after having everything else.

As for the king's brother, he had the burning pain of seeing the love of his life married his brother and he did not do much to save her because he wasn't chosen as the heir to the throne that time. After he learnt that the king abandoned her in the palace and rarely visit her, he finally regretted that he could have flees with her decades ago so she need not suffer. When he learnt that she had been taking a poison from the brother little by little, that's when he decided to save her, so he had to rebel. When he knew the army against him would be led by his own son Wallace, he knew it must be his brother's scheme to turn his own son against him. With a burning love and passion for his son, he had to choose the last measure - be killed by his own son who knew nothing, to protect him and let him step over his dead body to be the next king, so he can save his mother.
.
When Wallace found out that he defeated his uncle (who is actually his biological father) when he purposely let him win the battle, Wallace was already in a dilemma. One on one hand is the lover of his mother, another on the other hand is the king and father he truly respects. Everyone was waiting for him to execute his uncle before the public. Before he could do it, his mother ran to the scene to stop him from killing his own biological father. His real father tried to stop her from telling him the truth, so instead of waiting for Wallace to execute him, he killed himself on the spot. Wallace was stunned and it really was what he thought, he was not the king's son. Upon learning the real ugly truth, his heart was burning with dismay and regret. He ran back to the palace to verify it with the king, only to find the king was also dying because of the curse. He did survive much longer than the age of the curse but he was motivated all this while by the burning rage to seek revenge. Now that it was finally done, his energy greatly reduced and became really frail.

Wallace was weeping at the bed of the king, asking him, "Why, Father? Why did you do this to me? You were only using me as your pawn all this while? "

*"I wish you are my son. I really do. I taught you everything I knew but everytime I am starting to favour you, I see your father's look that I detest. Now it's finally over. I know I won't live. Only when this is done, I can die in peace, *" the king said.

Wallace was in despair after the death of his two fathers. Even though he was crowned king immediately after the king's death, he could not pick himself up. He misunderstood his real father for seducing his mother when the deceased king was the one who robbed her away. Not until he sought comfort from the love of his life, he could not come out of this burning pain of learning the real truth and nothing but the truth.

She said the wisest words, "You cannot live under the consequences of their choices. You can choose. Actually so could they. They each have chosen their paths which lead to what is upon you today. But you can choose to be above what they have imposed on you. We may have our destinies but we are still given a choice to choose to be who we want to become, and what we let burning within us. It will either spur us on or consume us. "

Extra 2 minutes added to this freewrite today to complete the whole story. That puts an end to this palace scandal I watched in a dramatic Chinese drama.
