My Journey of Becoming a Writer Starts from Displeasure to a Hobby (Sndbox Summer Camp Writing - Task One)

To be a writer is a dream of many people. Not many people in this world are capable of writing. Narrating the contents of the mind or perpetuating an event in the form of writing is not an easy job. Many people complain that it is hard to start writing. Only the accustomed and trained people can do it.

Speaking of writing, at first I did not like writing myself. Since I was in elementary school it never occurred to me that I was an adult to be a writer. It turned out that what I did not dream of was a very fun hobby for me today.

I started to love the writing world when I went to a famous university in Aceh province, Indonesia. Initially I wanted to be a teacher, I chose the English department as first choice and communication science as second choice.

In fact, I did not pass the first-choice test, but I graduated in the second choice, the science of communication. I am sad that I did not graduate in my chosen majors, but I continue to the communication science department because I am planning next year I will take the test again.

A year later, reopened new admissions. I passionately take the form to mandaftar as a prospective student majoring in English. Deliberately at that time no longer take the second option, I choose a single majoring in English.

What happened? God has not approved me to learn to be a teacher in English. I experienced a second failure. But I am not as sad as the first test, because I am committed if the second test does not pass, so I will focus on communication science, because communication science is also favorite department on my campus.

So please understand if in this paper there are many wrong in the use of words in English because it is not an expert in the field. But I still study English out of campus, because English is the language of the world.

Since then, I started to pursue the field of communication and journalism. Incidentally, one of my lecturers @yarmen-dinamika motivated me to become a journalist and writer. He is one of the senior journalists in Aceh's leading media, Serambi Indonesia Daily, his website: www.aceh.tribunnews.com.

When I was semester five, I submitted an apprentice proposal at a local online media in Aceh called The Globe Journal. There I learned in practice. I just realized the theory that I studied on campus is different from field practice.

On the field I have to start from scratch. I relearned how to write a headline, how to arrange the first paragraph, to quote the source to the cover. Even the first writing I had forgot to write the title, so I was laughed at by my editor.

Starting from there, I started to like the journalist profession. Want to go anywhere free without a hitch. Even more interesting we are known by many people, because through our writings that they read every day.

I am one of the young journalists who are rapidly improving journalism careers. From the apprenticeship status, three months later I was immediately appointed to be an employee in the media because I am diligent and diligent to learn. Yet at that time I was a student at my campus.

Interestingly again, I am one of the young journalists who get a recommendation to be a media team that is always invited by the governor of Aceh when berangkan out of town. All costs are dintanggung government, but they can not interfere me because in Indonesia including one of the countries that embrace free press system.

I was so excited at the time, still as a student but already earning a lot of money off-campus. So my tuition is self-made, no longer I ask my parents. I am independent as a man.

But the problem, I have enjoyed the money I get, until I almost forgot to finish my college. I remembered my parents' messages, wherever I went and whatever I did I had to graduate.

Finally I realized I had to focus back to college. Then I sent a letter of request for leave to my office so I could finish college. The office where I work also gives me permission to leave for a while. They asked me back after finishing college.

The proud day arrived. I have completed it with a 3.50 GPA. But I began to think again with the offer from the office where I worked before. At the same time I also get a job offer as a journalist from a larger media that is from LKBN ANTARA, a media owned by the government of the Republic of Indonesia.

Out of curiosity with the new workplace, I worked there for a year. Beside me as a journalist I also like to write opinion articles. I like to analyze every event that happens around me.

My opinion paper was published in several media in Aceh one of them at www.aceh.tribunnews.com. This media is the number one media in Aceh which has a holding company in Jakarta that is Kompas. Not counting again the number of my writing in the media, both related to public policy to criticize government policy.

After a year in LKBN BETWEEN, I did not renew the contract there again. I decided to become a freelance writer. As a freelance writer I can post to any media. And I can accept the project of writing a book from anyone.

Becoming a Journalistic Lecturer

I am currently studying a master of communication at the same university. Although I have not completed my master's studies yet, the campus I studied previously asked me to teach there as a lecturer for practitioners. I was asked to teach some courses related to communication and journalism.

Finally, I am thankful that God knows what is best for me. God granted my dream of becoming a teacher. Although not as an English teacher, I am a lecturer who teaches writing to students.

Now I am with teacher writing @ yarmen-dinamika and friends form a forum we named Forum Aceh Menulis (FAMe)/ Forum Aceh Writing. This forum is a place to learn to write for beginners. Anyone can study there without having to pay (free).

We do this class once a week every Wednesday. We also opened several chapters in several districts/cities throughout Aceh province. Up to now there are six chapters with a total membership of about 2,000 participants.

We agreed to continue to invite the younger generation to diligently read and write gait. Because writing is not a gift or hereditary heritage, but a business and a belief.

"Everyone can be a writer, except who does not want to." said @yarmen-dinamika.

Why do I want to be part of @sndbox?

I always wanted to join the @sndbox community for several reasons. First, I want to get a lot of knowledge in building my community. So I am more established in motivating members of my community to be more creative in writing.

Secondly, I'm sure in @sndbox has joined people all over the world. So I also want one of them and can be friends with people all over the world. For me the community is a force that needs to be built.

Thirdly, I want to continue to preach positive steemit to many people. I want them to know that in Steemit there are many benefits to be gained, both financially and creatively.

And why I choose the style of writing analysis and facts (journalism), because I want the reader to know each of my ideas. To be able to write like that I have to read a lot and be sensitive to the situation.

For example, there is something going on around us that has a bad effect, so it needs to be written so that people know it is a threat. Like littering, it will lead to disease and flooding. []
