Hola a toda la comunidad, uno de los hábitos más comunes en los niños, que provoca más malposiciones dentarias es la de la succión digital o chupar dedo.

Hello to the whole community, one of the most common habits in children, which causes more dental malpositions is that of digital suction or thumb sucking.

El paciente comienza dentro del vientre materno y es instintiva la succión que luego utilizará para alimentarse, psicologicamente los niños que chupan dedo, siente una sensación de satisfacción al rozar su dedo con el paladar, también siente seguridad a la hora de dormir.

The patient begins inside the mother's womb and it is instinctive the suction that later will use to feed itself, psychologically the children who suck fingers, feel a sensation of satisfaction when rubbing their finger with the palate, also feel security at bedtime.

Pero al seguir con el hábito hasta la edad del recambio dental, comienzan los problemas de malposiciones dentarias como apiñamiento, la aparición de diastemas, paladar profundo, mordida abierta, protusión de los incisivos inferiores, vestibularización de los superiores, que dan paso a otros hábitos como deglución atípica o respiradores bucales.

But when the habit continues until the age of tooth replacement, the problems of dental malposition begin, such as crowding, the appearance of diastema, deep palate, open bite, protrusion of the lower incisors, vestibularization of the upper ones, which give way to other habits such as atypical swallowing or mouth breathing.

El dedo más común utilizado por los niños es el pulgar, lo colocan entre el paladar y la lengua, siendo ésta ultima la que empuja el dedo hacía arriba, presionando el paladar.

The most common finger used by children is the thumb. It is placed between the roof of the mouth and the tongue, with the latter pushing the finger upwards, pressing on the roof of the mouth.

Esta presión constante deforma el paladar y atrofia el desarrollo de los maxilares, debido a que se encuentran en plena etapa de crecimiento y la movilidad es más rápida.

Como recomendación les sugiero a loslopadres padres de niño que chupan dedo, que debemos corregir a temprana edad éste hábito para así evitar complicaciones mayores, visite al odontopediatra, para poder diagnósticar y tratar a tiempo.

As a recommendation, I suggest to parents of children who suck their thumb, that we should correct this habit at an early age to avoid major complications, visit the pediatric dentist, in order to diagnose and treat in time.
