Hello friends from the farms today I will talk about the most common pests and diseases of cabbage and give a brief summary of the properties and their benefits to health. Cabbage or cabbage is native to Central Europe, Its scientific name is Brassica oleracea var. capitata and belongs to the Brasiliaceae family (also called cruciferae). Although for some centuries its cultivation has spread to the whole world. In ancient times the Greeks and Romans used cabbage for its many medicinal properties.

It is considered a natural antibiotic because it contains substances capable of reducing infectious germs.
The cabbage syrup against bronchial affections.
It has antirheumatic, anticatarral, digestive, energetic, healing, cardiac, and anticancer properties.
It is good for good mental functioning, thyroid, to burn fat, to prevent hypertension, for uric acid, to reduce cholesterol and is indicated for diabetics.

It is better to eat it raw, so as not to lose the properties of its water-soluble vitamins, for example, grated in a salad accompanied by extra virgin olive oil, vinegar and salt. We can also take your freshly squeezed juice. Although it is also popular to eat it in sauerkraut (sour cabbage fermented).
The steamed and very hot leaves are used to combat coastal and rheumatic pain. And also to relieve inflammations of the liver and kidneys, placed in their corresponding parts.
Cabbage is a biennial herbaceous plant. The edible part of the cabbage are its leaves and acquire a characteristic compact bud shape.

PESTS AND REPOLY DISEASES

SOURCE

ORUGA DE LA COL
The family of Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) are one of the main pests of chloriflor. Above all they attack in their larval state, that is, before becoming butterflies. The most common damages are bites on the leaves.
One of the species of Lepidoptera that most affect the cabbage is Pieris brassicae and can cause plant rot. Its adult form is characterized, mainly by being white and presenting two black spots on the wings.
The control of these insects is based on the use of pheromones or light bulbs. Also, it is important to detect small larvae as soon as possible in order to act more quickly.

SOURCE

WHITE FLY
White flies are usually located on the underside of leaves. Among the main damages caused to crops are:
Extraction of sap from the plant.
Mechanical damage
They produce molasses.
Some species are vectors of diseases.
The best control method is prevention. Therefore, it is important that you review the back of the sheets from time to time in order to act as soon as possible. In addition, there are several methods of control of whitefly such as chromatic traps, natural predators, infusion of wormwood, garlic, etc.

SOURCE

FLY OF THE COL
The cabbage fly causes significant damage in spring, mainly in younger plants. The larvae of these insects penetrate the roots of the plant and can kill it.

SOURCE

BIRD OF CRUCIFERAS (Eurydema ornatum and E. oleraceum)
They produce stings in the limbus of the upper leaves, sucking liquids and causing their wilting.
Control: destroy the surrounding brush as it serves as a refuge.

SOURCE

CERROUS LIGHT OF CRUCIFERAS (BREVICORYNE BRASSICAE L)
The cabbages are not free of aphids. As you know, aphids belong to the family of aphids and are one of the most common pests of orchards and gardens. They are small (1-3 mm in length) and can have different colors depending on the species they belong to. In the case of the aphids that attack the cabbages they are usually greenish blue. They attack young shoots of crops with high sugar content.
Of all the species of aphids, the most important of the cabbage crop is the "waxy aphid", characteristic of secreting a whitish waxy substance. This species can be very numerous and usually attack in limited foci. If the plague is very important they can destroy the plant.

REPOLLE DISEASES

SOURCE

MILDIU DE LAS CRUCÍFERAS
Disease caused by the fungus Peronospora parasitica. It can become dangerous in seedbeds. It is characterized, as we have seen other times, by yellowish spots on the leaves that later turn brown.

SOURCE

DRY POWDER
It is also known as "cancer of the cabbages" and "black foot". The cause of this disease is a fungus and usually attacks other crucifers. The main symptoms are the appearance of brownish rounded spots on the stem. At the beginning these spots are isolated but as the disease progresses they unite and destroy the tissues. The leaves can also be affected by this disease appearing in them grayish spots that darken over time.

SOURCE

BLACK PODREDUMBRE DE LA COL
The cabbages can also be affected by another type of rot, but this time it is caused by bacteria known as Xanthomonas campestris. These bacteria affect both young and adult plants. If the humidity and temperature conditions are favorable, they can cause serious damage.
Control based on preventive measures using certified seed, cultivate in soils free of these bacteria, keep the field free of wild cruciferous, quickly destroy infected foci
