Biggest NBA Free Agent Shocks That Will Happen This Free Agency!
Here is my take on what will happen during the NBA free agency, after Chris Paul officially joining the Houston Rockets the NBA landscape will change!
I know I blog about traveling but with NBA free agency set to begin at the stroke of midnight ET on Saturday I just had to give you my take.
This will be my expectations for the league biggest available stars.
I won’t include Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry, because they will stay put with the Golden State Warriors to chase a repeat.
Gordon Hayward
For a guy (me) who has framed jerseys of Karl Malone and John Stockton in his apartment it will be very hard to see this All-Star leave, however I expect him to leave the Mormon city.
With sources expecting him to meet with the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics it will be very hard for Utah to keep him. Off course they can offer him to most money because they drafted him but I expect him to sign with the Boston Celtics.
There are two main reasons for that; Hayward will be reunited with his college coach and with Paul joining the rockets there are just to many obstacles in the West. So goodbye Hayward and thanks for your great play in Utah!
Paul Millsap
Let’s face it the duo Paul Millsap and Dennis Schroder is not going to win you anything in this super team orientated league. If Millsap what’s to win I except him to opt-out of his contract and move elsewhere. Even though the Hawks can offer him a five year 200 million deal, compared to the 4 year 150 million deal every other team can sign him to. So is winning worth 50 million? I would say so…
Therefore I expect him to sign with the Boston Celtics as well. How do like the starting lineup Thomas, Bradley, Hayward, Horford and Millsap.
Remember Horford and Millsap played together before and were very successful!
Blake Griffin
Poor Blake Griffin! How would you feel when your floor general leaves you? Now that the biggest alley- oop assist artist is not part of your team anymore I understand why Blake Griffin opt-out of his contract. It’s time to find a new home, but where? One thing I know for sure his new team will pay him $130 million in four years to use his services.
I am torn between him singing with the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves. Throw in Florida’s lack of state income tax and the Heat is a great option for Griffin. However I would put my money on him signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Wolves have a ton of cap space, a playoff-bound roster thanks to adding Jimmy Butler and a massive need at Power forward.
George Hill
As mentioned I expect Gordon Hayward to leave the Utah Jazz, and George Hill to do so as well!
There are plenty of teams that can use this excellent, experienced point guard so I expect him to receive some interesting calls.
In my opinion Hill will sign with the San Antonio Spurs again! Why?? Popovich loves him, Parker is injured and Patty Mills will sign a big contract somewhere else I expect.
Hill will be the perfect point guard of the system he already knows.
Rudy Gay
I added Rudy Gay to this list because I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times when I owned a season seat of the Toronto Raptors back in 2012-2013. Gay was shopping quite often at the store I was working for and therefore I got to know him a little.
After his big injury he suffered it will be interesting to see which team will be comfortable signing him. I expect him to sign with the Miami Heat, enjoy the sun Rudy!
I think the Miami Heat will miss out on signing a bigger free agent and therefore will be chasing Rudy Gay. And be honest a starting line including Dragic, Waiters, Whiteside and Gay is not bad at all.
