Steemit is The Next Global Big Thing. And Here's Why.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

This is my view of the Steemit real value, or what it could represent in the near future. I just want to point out one thing - I'm not a cryptocurrency expert. I came to this site because it attracted me with its key difference in relation to all the others - a promise of an active community that creates quality content together.

After a month I spent here, I think that's true.

Before I get to the point, I want to say a few things about myself because I'm sure that few people had the opportunity to see my #introduceyourself post. However, that's not the reason why I choose this tag. I am doing it because I think that what I'm about to write will be useful to the new users who still need to understand this platform and its unique features.

I live in Serbia, I work in the marketing industry, and currently finishing my PhD thesis about the application of crowdsourcing principles in urbanism. I also write SF and horror stories. These three things are the key indicators on which I base my views: market trends, the monitoring of current technology trends and their impact on our everyday life, as well as the writing that in its essence is the creation of content.

Helloooooo world :-)

I recently started to develop an idea for a new story I plan to write. It is a distopian fantasy about the world where the reputation of every citizen is measured by the number of votes on the everyday content he produces on the global network. Citizens with a lot of votes may live in a well developed cities, while the others are placed in the poor communities. The unlucky ones loses the status of citizens and live like the outcasts.

This, of course, has nothing to do with Steemit, but may point out that content valuation will take more serious manifestations in the future. Why do I think this is one of the possible scenarios? It's very simple.

The Internet has changed the way we approach reality. Everything we do in an online mode today gains its reflection in online mode. Therefore, the Internet is no longer a space to which we are connecting when we need it, but a legitimate continuation of the space we live in.

Crowdsourcing as a phenomenon in which collective intelligence produces creative and other solutions is just a natural consequence of this. When it comes to evaluating content, Steemit is an excellent example of crowdsourcing. Collective intelligence of all members of this platform assigns value to any content that is created, and therefore affects all participants. Thanks to that, what we see in the trending section is content that is not approved by the administration, but by ordinary people.

So what is the big deal about trending topics? Twitter already did it.

But Steemit rewards you with money. So, it is quite realistic to expect that you will earn if you know how to make information. Valuable information. Although today there are numerous critics of the Steemit rewarding system, we can assume that it will improve. Therefore, the importance of this platform in the near future could be enormous.

One of the first articles I posted on the blog was a tutorial that helps authors translate their books for free. It took me more than three hours to write it, and I was not sure if I should publish it. I was aware that I dont have many followers, and that there are great chances that nobody will see it. I was skeptical of the promise that quality content can be recognized no matter how influential is an individual who wrote it. In the first few hours my post had several upvotes and less than one dollar of earnings.I thought to give up. Simply, I did not believe that new users could get the desired visibility.

And then, one Whale saw what I wrote and decided to give me his upvote. My tutorial came into the trending section, which allowed it to be read multiple times, increasing the chances that it would really help somebody to make a first steps on foreign book markets.

Steemit can become a platform that will not only help us earn money but will have a key impact on our reality. Unlike facebook and similar social networks that have changed the way we communicate with the brands and people we know, Steemit can go a step further and change the way we get in touch with the world.

I will try to explain this through a few examples from my short Steemian experience:

STEEMIT HAS INFORMATIVE ROLE

Every morning I read the texts from the categories I'm interested in. Thanks to the upvote system, I get information that users have recognized as relevant, which saves my time and allows me to get quality content right away without too much effort. Trending texts are not sponsored by companies and brands. They are sponsored by the Steemit community - ordinary people like you and me.

STEEMIT HAS THE ROLE IN THE CULTURE

I love literature. As a writer, I know how many problems my colleagues are facing. It is very difficult to publish a book and it is even harder to make money. Today, when everyone can publish their book through sites like Amazon, it often happens that we are fooled with great (but fake) reviews of books that don’t deserve it. Steemit allows me to read books that the community evaluated as good, and so far I have not mistaken when I followed its voice. Thanks to that, I'm currently reading a brilliant series from @michelle.gent. But this is not the end. Steemit allows us to recognize new and unknown authors and reward them if we think they deserve it. So everybody wins - authors get money directly from their readers who enjoy their books. This system doesn’t stay behind Amazon and similar sites. It is better. Here is why:

Steemit is not a middle man. It is not a sales channel but a healthy environment in which the process is performed directly between those who publish content and those who read it.

STEEMIT HAS THE ROLE IN SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

For a brief time here, I have come across numerous texts that draw attention to important social topics - such as the position of women in different societies and so on. It is very easy to imagine the potential that supporting of such things can have. Steemit can easily grow into a platform where the crowdfunding campaigns will be realized in a much faster and greater extent than it is case with platforms such as Kickstarter.

So, let's go back to my idea for the SF story I mentioned at the beginning. It belongs entirely to dystopia, while Steemit has a chance to become almost a utopian concept. Of course, the border between utopia and dystopia is very thin and can be crossed only because the one wrong decision :-)

In the end, I want to say thanks to all of you. I hope that you liked this texts, and I will be grateful for every upvote and resteem. Off course, I would be very happy to hear your opinion about all this.

Thank you Steemians! Long live the community!

Hallo and welcome! Great that you are a SF and horror author, too. I am a member of the SF group Vienna (SFGW) and of the library Villa Fantastica, also in Vienna (SF, Fantasy, horror). You're welcome to the SFGW meetings whenever you come to Vienna. It's mainly a group of authors, illustrators, librarians and publishers. http://www.sfgw.at and http://vwww.villafantastica.com Your article is very interesting and inspiring. I will turn back to it when my own #introduceyourself is finished tonight.

This is great news, thank you so much. I always love to hear about fellow genre writers, and I would definitely like to visit your meetings. I hope you will post your stories here...unfortunately, I do my translations on my own so its far from the good...

And your introduction post was awesome. I will follow you and read more...Thanks again :-)
