"SC-S28/W2-Movie Highlights|Voices unheard (Lion)
Assalam o Alaikum
I am really happy to take part in the “SC-S28/W2 – Movie Highlights | Voices Unheard” contest. A big thank you to @ruthjoe ma’am for creating such a meaningful and inspiring challenge.
Movie Introduction |
|---|
Lion (2016) is a biographical drama based on a True Story. It tells the life of Saroo Brierley,a young boy from a small village in India who gets accidentally separated from his family at the age of five.Lost and alone,he struggles to survive in the streets of Kolkata before eventually being adopted by an Australian couple. As an adult,Saroo uses technology to search for his birth family and reconnect with his roots. The film highlights themes of identity, family, belonging, and resilience, while giving a voice to children and communities often overlooked in mainstream media.
What new perspective or culture did this movie introduce you to? |
|---|
Watching Lion introduced me to the harsh realites faced by marginalized childran in India, particularley those living in poverty. The movie gave me a perspectiv on the struggles of children who are separeted from their families at a very young age and how easilly thay can get lost in crowded cities. It showed the dailly chalenges of survival, the risks of exploitatione, and the deep emotional impact of being abandoned or separated from loved ones.At the same time, the film ofered insight into Indian culture, family bonds, and the traditions that shape people’s lives.Through Saros story,I also learnd about adoption from a cross-cultural perspectiv how children adopted by foreign familes can experience both oportunities and emotional struggles while trying to stay conected to their roots. The film made me more aware of how circumstences, rather than personal choices, often determine a person’s path in life, and how resilienc and hope can help overcome seemingly impossible chalenges.
Were there any stereotypes challenged or broken in the film? |
|---|
Yes,Lion challenged several stereotypes about poverty, adoption, and childhood in marginalized communities.Often, films portray poor familes as careless, uneducated,or lacking love, but Lion brok that stereotype by showing Saroo’s birth family as loving and protective despite their limited resources. The movie also challenged the stereotype that children adopted into foreign families forget their origins or fail to care about their birth families.Saros unwavering desire to find his family, even after years of growing up in a new country, showed that cultural roots and family bonds remain strong. The film also presented adoptes as emotionally complex individuls rather than just grateful children, emphasizing that adoption involves both joy and emotional chalenges.Overal, the film gave depth to people from marginalized backgrounds, portraying them as resilient, loving, and capable of making life changing decissions.
Which character's journey did you relate to the most? |

I related the most to Saroo the main charectar. His journy of finding himself delleng with emotional strugles and trying to understend who he realy is fellt very real.I could fell his conffusion and his deep wish to belong along with the quit fear of letting down the people he loves. What moved me the most was his courage to face the unknown whether surviving alone on the busy streets of Kolkata as a small child or using technology years later to find his birth famiely.Saroos struggle to balance his love for his adopteve parents with the desire to reconnect with his roots showed me that our identity is shapd by the people and experiencs in our lives. His story taught me that even in the hardest moments hope patience and strength can guid us to find our true place in the world
What’s one message from the film that stuck with you? |
|---|
The mesage that stayed with me is that family, identity, and belonging are deeplly connected, and no mater where life takes you, your rots wil always be a part of who you are.Lion shows that courag, persistenc, and hope can help us navigat even the hardest moments. It also reminds us to se the humanety in every person,no matter their background or struggles. The film left a lasting impression on me that understending and honoring your past is essential for moving forward, and that love and connection can overcom distance, time, and any obstacle.
