Aim in life

From a very early age, I believed that doctors were one of the elite of the society. So it was my dream to become one of them. But after starting my classes at DMC, I understood that how important it was to study and gather knowledge relentlessly to become a good doctor. Setting this as my target, I participated in different exams. That's why despite passing FCPS Part-1, MRCP Part-1, Residency Admission Test, 35th BCS, USMLE Part-2 within three and a half years after my internship raises quite a lot of eyebrows, it just inspires me to pursue my journey of seeking knowledge even further.

It's a common misconception that medical studies is all about memorizing, it has little to do with understanding the concept. But from the beginning I always tried to study with a view to clearing my concept, no matter how much time it took. That's why after studying a topic if I weren't satisfied with myself, I didn't give up. I never believe in comparing myself with others. If I did that, I may have been lost a long time ago. So where most of them studied for passing, my mission was to gain knowledge. My thoughts were that in future I'll be in such a position that people will have to put their faith in me in their darkest hour. So to serve them properly in that time, I must prepare myself. What fascinates me about medical studies is that we can correlate a lot of things once you have depth in a certain topic. Like when I was in my third year and started going to wards, I tried to use my knowledge that I gained from the first two years to co relate it with the patients. Not that I succeeded all the time, but this practice has helped me a lot in future.

Those who are admitted in medical colleges are undoubtedly meritorious. But many of them lack dedication that's why they lag behind. This must be said that if you compare a student from abroad with a student of our country who are studying in the same levels, you'll see that the one from abroad is far more skillful. It's because of their system. Our system gives importance on memorizing whereas their system emphasizes on case related study. For example when I was solving MRCP and USMLE question papers, I found out that I knew a lot of things but I've never thought of it to be presented in this manner. If the topics were presented in this way, our studies would've been a lot more interesting.

When I look back, I see that the drive I had in my childhood to be a doctor hasn't waned over the years but stayed the same. I believe that I have much to give to my country and country men. I've journeyed very little into the depths of my dreams, there is still a long way to go. For that, I'm ready to do whatever is needed no matter how much hardship I'll have to face.
