Thank you for the excellent thoughts and writing of master Fromm. All the following sentences come from the re editing of the section of pleasure and happiness in the pursuit of self by Fromm's predecessors.

1、 One of the pleasures is the feeling after relieving the feeling of pain.

1.1 one is due to the lack of normal chemical action in the organism. Hunger, thirst, sexual gratification, sleep and physical activity are the result of biochemical processes. The objective physiological needs of meeting these requirements are regarded as desires in subjective consciousness. If there is any excessive ignorance of meeting these requirements, you will feel the pressure of pain. Once this pressure is eliminated, the feeling of relief is pleasure. The pleasure of satisfying physiological needs is a real satisfaction, normal and happy situation.

1.2 on the other hand, it is the consequence of mental disorder. The need for drinks is often not because of thirst, but because of psychological factors. Strong sexual desire may not be due to physical needs, but psychological factors. A self-conscious restless person is in urgent need of proving his value to himself, showing his incomparable ability to others, or putting himself in a superior position by pressing others with his sexual desire.

If his sexual desire is not satisfied, he will suffer painful pressure. People with jealousy, possessiveness and sadism will not lose their desire because of temporary gratification unless they forget it occasionally. The basic characteristic of these unreasonable desires is that they can not be satisfied.

These desires are due to the dissatisfaction of the individual. The inability and fear caused by lack of creativity is the root of such fanatical pursuit and unreasonable desire. The pleasure produced by meeting the neuropathological needs is at most a temporary relaxation of the need, a sign of pathological effect and fundamental unhappiness, which becomes "unreasonable pleasure".

In all activities, even in basic functions such as hunger and sexual desire, there is a difference between lack and abundance, and thus between satisfaction and happiness.

2、The pleasure we have become comes from the realm of abundance and freedom.

Hunger is a phenomenon of scarcity, and taste is a phenomenon of abundance. The demand for taste is to taste delicious food, which is different from hunger and does not cause uneasy pressure. This sense of taste is the product of cultural development and refinement, just like the appreciation of music and art. This kind of appreciation, only in the cultural and psychological abundance will produce.

Happiness and happiness are not the result of satisfying psychological and physiological needs, nor of relieving pressure, but of all creative activities in thought, feeling and behavior. The only difference between them is that happiness only refers to a certain activity, while happiness may be a continuous or complete happy feeling. To get happiness and happiness is not to enjoy the most relaxed life, but to take on the most arduous mission and give full play to his creativity.

In all activities, the nature of hedonism depends on the difference between scarcity and abundance. Everyone will experience satisfaction, unreasonable enjoyment and happiness.

Fromm's thought is very original. He wrote down the classification of "hedonism". It's not easy to understand how he classified hedonism in the first reading. So I edited and labeled it again, and it's easier to see how he classified hedonism into three categories.

From the words of his predecessors, we can learn that he supports both "satisfaction" and "happiness", opposes "unreasonable enjoyment", and encourages us to give full play to creativity and pursue "happiness".

After meeting the basic physiological needs, I realized my creativity and got happiness.

Mr. strange in the moon and sixpence is more extreme. He can't even satisfy himself with food and clothing, and he doesn't satisfy his family and love. He devotes all his attention to the pursuit of "beauty" through painting, which he is satisfied with.
