Make money with your old blog post

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

As a blogger since 2004, let me tell you what will be like a gold mine for you after some years of blogging: Your old posts!

Right when you think they have done what they could do for you, you will understand you are wrong! they can do more, and I'm gonna give you some simple recommendations to show you how.

First of all, those old posts should have two characteristics:

  • good quality: genuine, well written, good topic etc
  • time independency: posts which are not determined by the value of a variable representing time

If your old posts meet above conditions, don't doubt a second! let's move on:

Your blogging platform

old platforms like Blogspot, will enable you to use your own ads. Blogger (blogspot) has the option to integrate Google Adsense even easier than anywhere else. for this method I have two advises:

  • try to find best ads shape (size), best locations and best format (text or media) on your site. do consult with your friends and some experts maybe and try different plans and measure the results for the best performance
  • DO NOT put so many ADS!

I recommend text or media boxes between two posts, and one in sidebar. avoid header and footer ads. Header ads are annoying and footer is useless.

You may have better control of your blog if you publish it on your own domain and hosting. Blogger lets you do this, but more professionally you can use Wordpress, Joomla etc.

Some Platforms won't let you use your own ads. like Medium, Steemit, Publish0x etc.
Steemit puts ads on your posts (old and new) but won't share its revenue with authors. and you only can have income within 7 days of your publishing. So forget about steemit if your old posts are important for you. it is also very difficult to navigate to your old posts in steemit.

Publish and Medium are more friendly to old post monetizing process. So you can consider them, but let's see next issue:

Making you old posts visible

Whether you are trying your own blogging site or any platform, you have to help those old items to be found by those who explore web.

  1. make an archive
This works very fine especially if you are using your own site. on blogger you can also enjoy an automated archive. For platforms like Publish you can create a frequent post once in a while with old posts topics and links, or you may host your archive on a personal site and refer to pages on the blogging platform.

  2. refer to your old posts in your new posts, when the subject is relevant

  3. find similar posts from other bloggers and propose link exchanging. this is win-win and completely SEO legit!

  4. use social media(s). sharing your old posts on linked in, facebook, twitter etc is a good idea if you don't over-do it! try to connect to more and more people of the same interest you are writing about on those communities

Contacting Brands

This item has no roof! If you have blogged continuously on a topic which may be interesting to some brands and business owners, why you don't step in their office and let them know! You can sell their products, books, online courses, services etc on your site based on affiliate programs or commission based contracts.

For example if you are writing a blog on Tourism, you may put ads + Hotel Booking APIs + selling tour packages for local agencies +selling related books

Business events

Event organizers are also a good choice to target. the reason I don't include them in above item is they are different in needs and characteristics. you should study each potential client of yours fully to know their needs.

You can also find events to contact on irxp.com, a B2B portal for business events in Asia.

Dear @honarparvar

Interesting choice of topic. Upvote on the way :)

let me tell you what will be like a gold mine for you after some years of blogging: Your old posts!

I agree to some degree. However most publications out there couldn't be re-posted after a year of more, simply because they treat about topics that are currently fresh.

ps. have you ever tried Publish0x ? Is it worth the time? Just wondering.

I wanted to make some suggestion.

My impression is, that the hardest part of attracting attention on STEEMIT is the fact, that our audience have very little chance to actually find our publications. Lack of solid notification system is an obvious issue. And regardless how hard I would try - there is very little chance I would find out about your new interesting publications (my feed is just flooded with to many posts).

Please allow me to share some suggestion with you. If you would ever publish content related to blockchain, crypto, artificial intelligence, psychology etc. then perhaps you could simply send me memo with link to that post.

This way not only I would have a chance to read your publication, but I will also upvote it right away with 20k SP voting power. If I would consider it interesting then I may also share it with wider audience.

Please let me know what do you think. This surely should sound like a interesting offer :))

ps. I also have some decent stake of PALnet tokens, so my upvotes may bring you some extra reward. Assuming that you have account on PALnet. do you?

Yours
Piotr

thanks Piotr for your comment, advice and interest. I would definitely try to inform you next time.
I am on Publish, like it... it has its own cons and pros...

i don't use PALnet, give me some time and I will try it.
