The longest portico in the world! - Bologna - Italy
Today, I want to tell you about something that happened just yesterday: the vaults of San Luca have finally been restored. But what are they? They're basically the porticoes that run from Porta Saragozza to the sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca. We're practically in the city of Bologna, Italy, and if you've visited that city, you've surely come across these important "arches."
This portico is very important, not only for the thousands of faithful who go to the sanctuary, but because these porticoes are almost 4 km long and are considered the longest in the world, but above all they have also become a UNESCO universal heritage but also have a very symbolic value, in fact its 666 arches depict the serpent, the devil, and therefore the head would be crushed by the Madonna who is said to be at the top of the sanctuary.
It is a very interesting attraction of Bologna, which I invite you to visit if you happen to discover this important city of Italy, along the route there are several chapels with sacred images naturally linked to the devotion of Mary and since the Middle Ages This has always been a pilgrimage area.
Inside the sanctuary of San Luca is the Byzantine icon of the Madonna and Child, which was brought here by the evangelist Luke around the 12th century. Since then, it has become a popular pilgrimage destination, but above all, from above the sanctuary, you can enjoy a beautiful view of all of Bologna. Thank you for reading. See you next time.
