Assalamualaikum all members of siz i hope you all are well and fine today i am telling about common method to find calcium or magnesium from common water.
First introduced about magnesium and calcium
Calcium
Calcium is the mineral which is very necessary for regulate some functions of body it not gives us energy but very necessary for body functions Calcium is necessary for bones teeth and our nails if we not take calcium in our body the deficiency of rickets and osteomalacia can cause and on our nails signs of white lines.
Normal day we should take 350mg of calcium daily.
If we take calcium less than harmful for our body if we take calcium more than to harmful so we should take the quantity as maintenance.
Magnesium
It is the mineral also and it helps also the maintenance of the some functions of body
It control the central nervous system.
How to find the Calcium and Magnesium
- Take sample 10ml of common water in beaker and also take NaOH 0.5 ml buffer solution of 1 molarity and also 1 drop of indicator it change the color of water.
- Then titration for finding the calcium quantity
Titration with EDTA 0.1m solution and note the usage quantity of EDTA solution and multiple this quantity with 40 and this answer is the quantity of calcium in water.
We are finding calcium because if the quantity of calcium less in water it can harmful for body and if more it cause water hardness. Because the main reason of water hardness is calcium and magnesium salts.
The companies of mineral water use the calcium quantity 40ppm per ltr
To find magnesium Magnesium =0.243(hardness-2.5(calcium)
This is the formula in which pit the values of calcium and water hardness give us the quantity of magnesium present in water.
Final color of calcium after use EDTA solution.
Calcium and Magnesium is necessary in common water but at least one limit is 40ppm if we use more than the limit our water become hard and this water is not good for drinking and washing and not for other things.
