Drawing From Life My Brother on the Sofa
Hello everyone sharing with you today a drawing of my brother lying on the sofa. I unfortunately do not have process photos as this was done in one go but I will share some of the process when drawing it.
This was an exercise in a sustained study and was done over 1-2 hours. I used a graphite stick and was drawn over roughly A3 size paper.
I began with one clear line that will be the main gesture of the figure. I then created a rough outline of the figure based on a few lines using a light pencil to get the approximate proportions correctly. When I was pleased with the accuracy of the drawing I then used a graphite stick to darken the most important tones. I was important to make the areas moving away out of my sight dark to create the needed depth.
The most time spent was on the face as this is one of the most important parts in the drawing and focal point in the composition. I then did less detail in the clothes and drew a few lines to indicate a blanket under his leg. The sofa was also done with a few simple lines as a background so that it does not become too distracting.
This was a good practice in a sustained still life as it is not often I can draw someone still for more than a few minutes. He moved a few times but still managed to draw the features before he did or waited for him to make that pose again.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out the post!
