My 2017: Welcoming the new year - Share the Joy And Being Together
My parents have a tradition long long ago, and when I have my own family, I practice it as well! New Year is a blank canvas, everything is fresh, and a brand new year is awaiting. New Year is for new hopes, new joy, new wishes, and new dreams.
The Gathering
On New Year Eve day, we gathered at our parents' home! There are four families still around, each family brought their own dishes to pass. The food could be homemade or store bought or restaurant ordered.
We played card games, we talked, we watched television! We prayed and then we ate! By 10:45 PM, we said Happy New Year and headed to our own home to do our own traditions.
Tradition That I Carry On
Once home, we got our sparkling juice glasses ready, had some more snack/appetizers, and waited for the ball for the ball to drop! We toasted the New Year, hugged each other, and I hurried up to open the front door, and back door to let out the bad luck of the previous year!
For the next three days, we couldn't vacuum or clean the house for superstitious notions. I was told that I should leave good luck and good spirit dwell in the house for a while. This was what we do year after year! Not much, but it kept our family relationship tight!
