Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #23
Greetings my dear friends of Steemit and Steem-Agro
Talk about the Roles of Fertilizers and Pesticide in Agriculture.
---
Fertilizers
Plants need water sunlight and air. Plants also need nutrients for their growth. Plants get their nutrients from the soil. The three important nutrients are nitrogen phosphorus and potassium. These three nutrients are called principal nutrients.
If the field is farmed continuously the nutrient content of the soil will become less. We resend these by adding fertilizers.
Fertilizers are classified into organic and inorganic fertilizers.
Organic fertilizers
Organic fertilizers contain only plants or animal based materials or materials synthesized by microorganisms. These fertilizers are prepared easily and they are economical. Examples of organic fertilizers are vermicompost.
Inorganic fertilizers
Inorganic fertilizers are prepared by using natural elements by making them undergo chemical changes in the factories, example of inorganic fertilizers are urea ammonium sulfate and super phosphate
Chemicals Pesticides are employed to kill or control pests including insects weeds and fungi. While pesticides have helped increase crop yields and reduce the spread of diseases. Their use has also raised concerns about the potential health and environmental impacts.
Are there local fertilizers and how effective are they
---
Worm castings
The worm makes black gold which is worm castings. Worm castings contain live enzymes and nutrients worm castings also encourage microbial activity in the soil. Earthworms aerate the soil and make the soil loose for roots to grow deep.
Earthworms can eat half their bodyweight in a day which all turns into organic fertilizer.
Number two calm nor you can pick up calm newer from Home Depot or you can just contact your local dairy and pick up cow poo right from there.
Deer- manure and commoner has been used by our ancestors throughout the century and it doesn't even matter which part of the world we are from. All of our
ancestors have used cow dung to fertilize their gardens common or should be added to your garden at least 30 days before adding your plants. The commoner contains good nutrients and live bacteria needed for your vegetable garden to grow.
Number three chicken manure makes a great fertilizer. chicken manure is high in nitrogen and also contains potassium and phosphorus. Raw chicken manure can contain a lot of nitrogen and can burn plants so it is best to eat chicken manure or compost.
Is there any traditional way of killing pests on crops and how effective is it without causing harm to the plant
---
Farmers can use biological control mechanisms.
Biological control is the use of a natural predator of the organism you wish to control, for example aphids or green flies are herbivores that feed on many human crops aphids are eaten by ladybirds. Ladybirds could be added to an environment to control the number of aphid pests.
Sometimes this method of control works well. However the introduction of a new species to an environment can have unexpected effects. One example of this is the hawaiian cane toad. It was introduced in Australia to control the population of the cane beetle a pest that damaged sugarcane crops.
It is now considered a pest species itself and has been blamed for the extinction of some endemic species.
