I was one number away from winning the lottery: Your thoughts manifest your reality

I was one number away from winning the lottery. The jackpot was one million dollars. $1,000,000. And I was one number away. ONE NUMBER!

What do I mean, one number? I mean I matched four numbers out of five numbers, and the number I didn’t match was off by one. The winning number was 16 and I picked 17.

This was the Virginia Moneyball lottery that is now discontinued. The top prize was ordinarily $100,000, but if the gold ball was picked during the drawing, the prize went up to $1,000,000. I believe quite a few people managed to claim the top prize before the lottery was discontinued. I suppose too many people were winning so that probably shut it down.

Why am I talking about this?

Let me back up.

A few months before my near-brush with financial freedom, I began to get into the whole manifestation process. Manifest whatever you want! Your thoughts create your reality! Anyone can be rich! The whole law of attraction thing. I was in law school at the time, about midway through. I had just gone through some major life changes…identity crisis, depression, illness, that great bag of tricks. I was in law school so needless to say I was dissatisfied with my life and where I was headed.
So I thought I would give this whole manifestation process a try. Why not? I made a vision board. Started doing affirmations. Before all of this I had gotten into meditating and began my spiritual practice, so I recognised how important thoughts were to shaping reality. Depression had driven that lesson home. I remember I was thick in the process, with different images and writings taped all over my kitchen wall, when a friend of mine came over to my place after class one day. He took one look at my wall.

“So erm, what’s all this?” he asked, deciding he couldn’t ignore it anymore.

“My manifestation process.”

“Wtf is that?” he asked with raised eyebrow.

“I’m going to win the lottery” I told him.

“Coo” he shrugged. This was his second time through law school. I knew he had seen worse.

Eventually I settled on a technique to play the lottery where I would get a blank ticket, concentrate on the ticket, and imagine myself looking into the future and seeing the winning numbers marked off in their boxes. Those were the numbers I played. It sounds crazy, but it was fun, like a game to me, and I was actually getting better results than from just playing randomly.
A few days after my friend came by was the day I almost won.

It was a rush, to see four numbers matching and one number so very close. It was a type of high, a feeling that anything was possible and that this crazy manifestation stuff could actually work.

But for some reason, the desire to win began to slip away from me.

I began to focus on other things that I truly wanted, like a purpose to my law school madness, and more importantly a partner to settle down with. A few months after one million dollars almost found me (before taxes, of course) I had manifested much more than money could buy. I met the love of my life after seeing her in my meditations weeks before I met her. I was enrolled in one of the best human rights law programmes in London. Later I passed the bar exam and became a lawyer. I don’t know if these things would have happened without my manifestation process. But I knew that almost winning that money made me realise without a doubt that anything is possible.

Just last week I set the intention to move into my own place since I’ve been living in a flatshare in London. I definitely didn’t have the cash on hand to make the move, much less pay for it on a monthly basis. But I began to manifest. I went to look at places I probably couldn’t afford. Not just one bedrooms, but two and three bedroom flats. When the agents asked me who I was moving with, I simply said my brother was thinking of moving in with me. It was the first answer that came to mind.
After the second day of viewings, my brother messaged me after I had just seen a particularly nice duplex flat and told me he wanted to move to London, and asked whether we could move in together. I hadn’t talked to him in a few weeks.

After I saw his message I smiled to myself and thanked the Universe for yet another flexing of its manifestation muscles.

To drive the point home, the agent of that duplex offered me £1000 off second month’s rent of that awesome duplex.

Even after I stopped focused on the lottery as a way to make money, my manifestation process never failed. After my law programme in London I was thinking of myself ok its time to get a job its time to make some money. I started the manifestation process again. It led me to bitcoin when the price was $350 (eyyyyyyyyyy the good old days). It led me to very easy short term jobs that were paying a lot of money for German speaking lawyers. It led me to really incredible and amazing ways to make money, and eventually to the entire cryptocurrency marketplace.

This is all to say, your thoughts really do shape reality. Maybe not in the exact way you want sometimes, but if you set your intention and maintain your focus, you can truly bring your dreams into this reality.

In case you are wondering, I picked up a cool $100 for matching four numbers in the lottery. Just $100. It could have been $1,000,000. But then, I wouldn’t have had the experiences and the growth I’ve had, so I think it was worth it. I’m sure I’ll be seeing the $1,000,000 soon enough!
