The Paradox of Not Working

in #life5 years ago

Most of us see work as a necessity and not a passion. Even for those who arefond of what they are doing and feel accomplished in their career, work is still work. You don't wake up feeling happy that you have to ruah to eat breakfast and drive one hour to get to the office.

Although you might be running your own business or you might be working in a creative industry where you can innovate and avoid boredom, there are moments when all of us feel trapped in the 9 to 5 rat race, even those who don't have a fixed schedule. And most of us feel this burden of routine every day.

No matter how much you love what you are doing, as long as you need to do it to be able to survive, this also becomes and obligation, which kills the sheer pleasure of doing something simply because you enjoy it.

However, due to the pandemic that not only made thousands of jobs vanish while threatening many more, but also forced most people to stay at home, there is an increasing desire for everyone who still has a job to go back there as soon as possible.

Of course, this is mainly due to the fact that people need money and reassurance. They need stability and going to a fixed job provides them this.

Nonetheless, besides these practical reasons, people are also eager to go back to work simply because they want to be active again. They want to do something else besides watching TV, cooking, and cleaning.

It's a paradox if you think about it. Two months ago, many of us would have killed to be able toe take some time off work and simply stay at home and rest. Now that this vacation was forced upon us, we realize how bad it is (financially, mentally and physically) not to be able to work.

Once again the cliche 'you don't know what you've got till it's gone' is confirmed.
