Photography: Art direction

While I wait for a new roll of film to develop, a Kodak Gold 200 full of plenty of memories by the side of @namiks on an extraordinary travel this weekend (which I'll explain very soon), I'm going to mention today one of the various reasons why I've been away recently from Steemit.

Around January I started a master degree to specialise myself in art direction. I've been studying media, arts, photography and cinema my entire life and recently I finally realised what I enjoyed the most in this immense world of possibilities which all these subjects include. Despite of how the master degree is developing, which is making me sometimes think I've made a mistake, I try to take advantage of all the exercises and activities we carry out to practice and learn as much as possible by myself. That's why I've been thinking about showing my future projects here on Steemit, so if there's anyone who can give me some professional advice or make me improve in any technique I'm learning right now. Also, maybe, share some of my previous works or researches.

This photograph is during an illumination session we did of our first studio creation, a wood cabin. It was a very stressful and tough process, mostly because we barely knew each other and we didn't know anything about real construction techniques. But at the end, it actually looked pretty fine. I'm thinking about writing a post explaining the process of the whole structure and ambience, also applied to the learning context I'm in.

Last but not least, this photo was taken with a Minolta X-700, a 50mm lens and a Kodak Portra 400 film.

Very nice photo, @irial. It's always great to see good old traditional film photos.

Thank you :) it's a very magical way to photograph and it keep the film tradition alive.

Cool I hope you do share more of the projects from your degree study, that sounds really interesting. So are you saying you actually had to create the cabin itself? So... art direction - for film - is kind of like set design basically?

Thank you! I'm going to start posting about my project for sure, I'm really excited about it actually. About the cabin, it was our first construction project at the school, and yes, as you say, it was like a set for a film. Basically, they gave us a plan for the cabin and we had to build the parts and put them all together with decorations inside. I'll upload the photos of the result soon.

About art direction, it doesn't just include set design, we also have to plan costume design, atrezzo, general atmospheres… and a lot of stuff more. All of it cooperating with a lot more film departments, of course.
