Ivan's film review - Escape room
Welcome dear steemians, as some of you know I’ve been doing these Ivan’s top lists for a couple of weeks a while back. They consisted of three of four movies that I would recommend for horror or mystery genre lovers. Posts like this will differ a little bit, meaning that I won’t only post movies I adore. All in all I will be reviewing newer releases with much more detail than I used to with my top lists, but not too much in order not to spoil them for you. So to begin with the first post of this sort, welcome to Ivan’s film review!
Escape room (2019)
A new work by Adam Robitel, also known for his horror film “Insidious”. The movie has tags action, adventure and drama on which I agree, but it falls under a really small category of movies which doesn’t have a tag of its own. I’m not sure how I would call it myself but this film is another one in line where a group of people need to solve some brainteasers in order to stay alive or win at something. Take “Exam”, “Saw” or “Cube” for an example and you’ll know what I’m talking about. So for people who enjoy movies of this type, I’d definitely recommend them to see “Escape room” as well.
But when you compare the storyline to the entire film world it proves itself to be quite weak. The entire plot relies solely on the suspenseful situations that keep you guessing who will be the one to die. Also the first scene of the movie gives away more than it should killing some fun of the guessing as well. The puzzles which our characters face vary from really simple and easy ones to some a little bit more complicated and interesting.
The ending of this movie screams: “We will make part two if we earn enough money, but if we don’t we’ll just pretend this one never existed.” So far I’ve sounded a little too harsh, so to sum it up, the movie itself isn’t boring nor dull, but there is a hell of a lot room for improvement. Seeing it will provide you with an hour of fun and may wake the desire to visit an escape room on your own. Other than that it won’t give you much to talk about after the movie and keep you dazzled.
Hope you liked this review and I’ll see you next time!
