PARABLES ILLUSTRATING GOD'S LOVE

1. The prodigal son - Luke 15:11-32

In the parable of the prodigal son, Jesus told the people surrounding Him and waiting eagerly to hear the word of God. He told them a story of a man who had two sons. One day, the younger one went to his father and asked him that he need his own share of his inheritance. After much disturbance, the father gave him his portion, he travelled to a country very far where he spend all his wealth in reckless and wasteful living. Not quite long he waste all he had and great famine started in that country. Since he has nothing left of him, what to eat nor drink become a big problem to him.

The famine worsen that he end up begging a man to employ him in rearing his animals;look after his pigs, and feed them. He usually feed on the pigs food because he has none to eat. One day he came to his senses and thought of going back home because even his father servant has much food to eat and to spare.

On his way home, the father sight him from distance and ran out to meet him. The father was happy, embrace him and give him a warm welcome. The father order for the best and fattest animals, organise a party to celebrates his son's return. When the elder brother heard of what happened, he became sad of the special treatment given to him, despite his been with his father all this while. His father called him and said to him,

"Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost and is found

In the same way, when we regret of our wrong doing and come back to Him. His faithful and just to forgive us.

2. The lost sheep - Luke 15:1-7

During one of Jesus teaching. The tax collectors and sinners moved nearer to Jesus to hear His teaching. The Pharisees accused Jesus of receiving sinners and dining with them. Jesus answered them with the parable of the lost sheep. He told them the parable of a man that had a hundred sheep and lost one. The man left the ninety-nine sheep aside and went back to look for the missing one.

When the owner of the sheep found it, he was very happy, carried it home rejoicing. He invited his friends to make merry with him. Jesus said to them that in the same way, there is a great joy in heaven over a sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons whose faith are secure.

The lost coin. - Luke 15:8-10

This story is about a woman that had ten silver coin and lost one of it. The woman decide to search for it, she lit a lamp and swept every corner of the house. She eventually found it, she beckon the neighbours and said to them *"Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost". Jesus said in like manner, the angel rejoice over one sinner that repents.,
