Dachigam National park. The place for preservation of kashmir Stag

Dachigam is one of the national parks located in the vicinity of Srinagar city, at a distance of about 20 km from Srinagar. Located right in the foothills of the Zabarwan Mountain Range, it is one of the easily accessible recreational spots in Srinagar city. Situated in a calm and peaceful atmosphere, it is an area with minimal human influence.

The area was declared a national park in 1981. This park was established only after relocating ten villages. That is why the name Dachi means ten and Gam means villages. It is a huge park located right below the foothills, covering an area of about 140 square kilometres.

It is famous for being a place where the endangered Hangul, or Kashmiri stag, has been provided with an atmosphere suitable for flourishing, ensuring that this species returns to the numbers it had some decades ago. Not only does it support natural beauty, but it also has a zoo that contains Himalayan black bears, deer, leopards, etc., along with birds including golden eagles and vultures. Tigers can also be seen here.

The density of shrubs and plants in and around the area makes it appear somewhat haunted and more suitable as a location for shooting a horror movie, considering the narrow paths through the shrubs where people move in and around the park. This is what makes it quite extraordinary. Not only does it reflect beautiful scenes in the summer season, but during autumn, the golden transformation of the leaves makes it even more beautiful and one of the main tourist attractions of the season.

Thus, it is an ecologically diverse place where we can see a huge number and wide diversity of plants such as deodar, pine, and other trees, along with meadows and grasslands. It is one of the famous tourist destinations of the valley, being located in the area towards the famous Mughal Gardens. The road leading to this place runs along the famous Dal Lake, which again makes it easily accessible.

The place is cool, and its charming atmosphere makes it one of the must-visit places. It has streams flowing through it, originating from the mountains behind the national park. These streams not only beautify the area but also provide drinking water to the adjoining areas.

I recommend visiting this national park only during the summer and up to the end of the autumn season, not in winter due to heavy snowfall in the area. During heavy snowfall, there is not much visible other than snow all around, which does not serve the purpose. Therefore, if anyone wants to enjoy the views, scenery, serenity, and solitude of this place, it is always recommended to visit between April and the end of October.
