Embracing the Magic of Snowfall: A Day in Kashmir’s Winter Wonderland with Captivating Moments
Greetings, friends! How are you all? I hope you are doing well and in good spirits. Today, I would like to share something about snowfall with you, as it is snowing here today. I am confident that you will enjoy this post, along with the photographs I have included, which I hope you will find delightful.
This entire year was dry, with very little rainfall. While there was plenty of rain during the spring season, as soon as summer arrived, the rains diminished significantly. Initially, there was no rainfall at all, and later, just as the summer season ended, there was a little rain. This situation became a source of great concern for the entire valley. Farmers, who rely on agriculture for their livelihood, were deeply troubled and spent the entire year in distress.
Since this is a hilly area with no other significant irrigation sources, our crops depend entirely on natural irrigation. Due to this, farmers were worried throughout the year because the investment they had made in crop production seemed to be going to waste.
The summer this year was extremely hot, breaking all previous records. Those who cultivate apples faced issues due to the lack of rainfall, which severely affected the quality of the produce. The prices of apples were also low this year, and the poor quality of the harvested apples left people highly disappointed.
Even as the winter season arrived, there was still no rainfall. The cold became so intense that stepping outside was almost impossible. People feared freezing if they went out. Most avoided going outdoors in the mornings or evenings altogether.
A few days ago, the meteorological department had predicted snowfall, and finally, after a long wait, it snowed today.
People had lost hope and no longer believed in any predictions, considering them all nonsense. However, this afternoon, light snow began to fall, bringing smiles to people’s faces. Since morning, cold winds had been blowing, making it difficult to step outside.
As the snow started falling, it quickly intensified and began to blanket the entire area. Everywhere turned white, and people were overjoyed. Finally, this snowfall promised some relief from the harsh cold. Dry cold is particularly dangerous, not only for health but also for everything else connected to daily life.
Water pipes had frozen, adding to the challenges, but now people are beginning to feel a sense of relief.
Snow, along with a wave of happiness, brings its own set of challenges. Walking on snow becomes very difficult, and since the cold here is intense, the snow often freezes, making it extremely slippery. This leads to frequent cases of people slipping and falling, resulting in broken bones and hospital visits. Vehicles also struggle to move, as I experienced today.
While I was heading home, the snow had already frozen, and since our area is hilly, driving on the roads became incredibly difficult. I decided to park my car about six to eight kilometers away from home, as I felt it was too risky to drive further. The slippery conditions could have caused damage, which would have been troublesome for me.
Many others like me, who rely on their cars for travel, were equally frustrated and unsure of what to do. The situation left people feeling helpless in the face of such harsh conditions.
I parked my car and started walking on foot. I was accompanied by a colleague from my office. After walking together for a while, we came across a large passenger vehicle on the way. Since such large vehicles can navigate the snowy conditions, we decided to board it and continued our journey home.
Walking in such conditions was nothing less than a challenge for me because snowfall is usually accompanied by strong winds. Walking long distances in this weather becomes quite difficult. Many people have lost their lives in similar conditions. This is another challenge that comes with snowfall.
However, snowfall is a blessing for the valley of Kashmir, as it brings a large number of tourists during this season, boosting the local economy. It is a matter of great fortune for us to live in a region where snow falls. Tourists from other parts of India and around the world come here to enjoy the snow. For many of them, it is the first time they experience snowfall in their lives. While snow does fall in some other countries, it is rare in India and neighboring regions. For them, this becomes a moment of great joy and excitement.
Since yesterday, there has been a unique atmosphere of happiness everywhere, and tourists and locals can be seen enjoying the first snow of this season everywhere and in every corner of the valley.
Thank you for going through my post. Have a great time ahead.
I guess winter comes with beauty and looks so good. However, the body finds it difficult to adapt to it. I hope your body has adapted to it already?
