London wiating - oil painting

An earlier oil painting of mine. The inspiration for this painting came from watching commuters on the tubes and buses of the underground like being cocooned in these travelling capsules with other humans and yet everyone sits in their own worlds doing their best not to look at each other and or trying to look at each other and doing their best not to be seen looking for fear of the unknown in that a reaction from some possibly unstable commuter could escalate so uncontrollably so as to have a detrimental effect on their life or even just their personal space. I find people amazing to watch and often sit sketching in waiting areas whilst waiting for things like a flight or a doctors appointment. I tend to find someone that piques my interest and try to imagine what they may be thinking where they live, how they live, who they live with. There characteristics and temprement and of course what brought them to be sitting in my path as our life journeys meet for sometimes a few minutes and sometimes hours. Trying to capture that particular look that has caught my eye and put it down on paper and then ultimately canvas for the few that really capture the imagination. This picture was to take me on a particular bus journey that involved travelling to a train station and onto another bus and then on to a flight. I tried to capture not only the reflective mood but that mix between excitement, nervousness, and yet happiness and somehow boredom and frustration within all these emotions seems to have come through as well or at least i think so. What do you see I wonder? Hope you enjoy the picture.

I like this paint, i see in this paint the face of a book character i always imagined Anita Blake, the main character Laurell K Hamilton books looks like that ^^

You did a great job on this portrait. Beautiful use of shadows. 😃

I think you really captured that sense of waiting at commuting spaces or doctor's offices... A kind of openness in the face that is triggered by not having anything to do but wait. I love the colours and the dramatic lighting you've worked with, here <3
