Hello everyone and welcome to my review of, Resident Evil 3, Nemesis. This third installment of the Resident Evil franchise was released in 1999 by Capcom, for the original Playstation. At the time of it's release it was met with critical praise and performed so well it was later ported to the Nintendo, Gamecube. Resident Evil is probably my favorite game series of all time, especially the five that use the old style game play. By the time this one came out I had played and beaten the first two multiple times, and couldn't wait to get my hands on Nemesis. When I finally got it, I noticed that Capcom had made a few changes to the formula since the first two, but I was not disappointed. This is still a classic Resident Evil title that deserves a port to modern consoles, or hopefully, a complete remake.
Resident Evil 3 follows Jill Valentine, from the first game, and takes place roughly the same time as the second game. Unlike the first two Resident Evils, you don't get to choose from two characters at the beginning. This time you just play as Jill, as you run around Raccoon City, in the middle of the chaos of the zombie outbreak, caused by the evil secret corporation, Umbrella. Nearly all of Raccoon City's citizens have fallen victim to the T-Virus and are now zombies that roam the streets. Jill is caught up in the destruction of all this and just wants to escape the town. Umbrella has not only unleashed the zombie outbreak, but also has filled the city with all sorts of different monstrous mutations. Giant spiders, giant worms, and most importantly, The Nemesis.
The whole game basically revolves around the addition of the Nemesis. He's a hulking unstoppable creature, who's main purpose is to kill all the remaining members of the elite police unit the, STARS. Jill is the last member of STARS in Raccoon City, so naturally Nemesis stalks her throughout the entire game. Each time you encounter Nemesis you have the option to either fight him head on, or run away to try and survive and fight another day. You don't get penalized for running away, but if you think you can kill him and decide to fight, when Nemesis goes down you get a secret item that can be very useful. However, just because you take him down once, that doesn't mean he's gone for good. No matter how many times you kill Nemesis, he comes back bigger and more pissed off. Each time he goes down though, you get a part for a new gun to add to your arsenal.
Some other new additions to Resident Evil 3 are, the ability to craft different types of ammo. Throughout the game you will find three types of gun powder, A, B, and C. You can combine these in various ways using your gun powder press, to make everything from pistol and shotgun rounds, to magnum or grenade rounds. Another new feature is the ability to dodge. If you time it just right, when an enemy lunges at you to strike, you can press a button combination to dodge out of the way. This helps a lot in the battles with Nemesis when he charges at you. And lastly there is a new feature where at certain points of the game, an on screen prompt will come up giving you two choices. Depending on what you choose will effect what happens next in the game, as well as how the whole thing ends. This will happen a handful of times throughout Resident Evil 3, giving the game some replay value.
As you can see from the screenshots, this game doesn't hold up well in the graphics department. The character models are very blocky, but the pre-rendered backgrounds actually don't look too bad. At the time this game was released in 1999, critics were raving at how great the graphics were, but that was a long time ago and unless you grew up playing these types of games, you might not like the way it looks very much. Resident Evil 3 is a pretty short game compared to the others and has a more fast paced feel to it. But the addition of choice throughout the game gives you a good reason to go back and play it again. Most Resident Evil games have been ported to modern consoles, the only ones that haven't are, 2 and 3. I'm pretty sure the reason for this is the graphics. These two games were meant to be played on an old CRT TV, on today's high def flat screens, it would probably look terrible. I'm really hoping that the remake of Resident Evil 2 will be successful, and that Capcom will do the same with 3.
I played this game so much when I was young, I wish there was a way I could play it now. Nemesis was a great antagonist, you never were sure when he was going to jump out at you. This kept the tension high at all times, as well as the fact that he just didn't die. No matter how many times you killed him, he kept getting back up. This one doesn't have the same allure of some of the other ones for me, but I still consider it a classic. I give Resident Evil 3 - Nemesis a score of........

Thank you for checking out my review, I hope you enjoyed it!
RE3 is probably my favorite of the PSX era RE games.
There are plenty of ways to play it today, it's on psn, and there's a windows version. Plus all the ports.
Yeah it's a shame I don't have my Gamecube anymore. Also I don't game on the computer, and the only old school one on PSN is Code Veronica.
if you have a ps3 there's a psn version.
Never had a PS3, only PS4. Thank you though!
You've got what it takes.
