Online meetings and new normality: challenge and requirement in 2020

Last November 30th and December 1st, Fondonorma, Venezuelan ISO standards certification body, in charge of the elaboration of technical standards, as well as the training of personnel in these fields of competence, carried out this year its annual forum online.

The central theme was "Business Management and Resilience in the New Normality", with the participation of national and international speakers, whose objective was to promote continuous improvement, and to recognize the characteristics and current conditions of the environment in the so-called "new normality".

Among the most outstanding topics I had the opportunity to enjoy were:

(1) Prevention and mitigation of Covid 19, in the workplace.
(2) Benefits and opportunities obtained from the management systems in the time of Covid.
(3) Remote audits in certification processes, and
(4) Information security in conformity assessment processes in certification and accreditation.

In this context, this work allowed me to obtain valuable information from the experiences of the exhibitors, in terms of the application of the Management System standards:

ISO 45.001:2019 "Management systems for safety and health at work".
ISO 19.011:2018 "Guidelines for management system auditing",
ISO 10.015:2019 "Quality management. Guidelines for competence management and people development",
ISO 22301:2019 "Business Continuity",

It is important to emphasize, the information obtained from the interaction and references with organizations and consultants who are developing activities of interest in the business field, despite the adverse conditions, which represents a commendable effort for the welfare of the population and the various productive and service sectors.

An important aspect of this type of activity, is that it allows us to broaden and strengthen organizational and personal perspectives and vision, recognizing the requirements of the stakeholders, as well as the knowledge and skills needed to successfully assume the challenges posed in this period Covid 19, still under development.

This type of event also provides an opportunity to update oneself on current standards, as well as to identify or acknowledge weaknesses, threats, strengths, opportunities and achievements.

On the other hand, to identify the gaps in the processes in this new reality, given the new requirements of the management systems of health and safety at work, quality, information, personnel, environment, among others.

Finally, it is important to emphasize that in order to achieve the objectives, it is necessary to have unity and commitment, as well as mutual support between the organization and the personnel in order to emerge stronger from this complex period that humanity is going through.
