Manali is a resort town nestled in the mountains of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh near the northern end of the Kullu Valley, at an altitude of 2,050 m (6,726 ft) in the Beas River Valley. It is located in the Kullu district, about 270 km (168 mi) north of the state capital, Shimla, 309 km (192 miles) northeast of Chandigarh and 544 km (338 miles) northeast of Delhi, the federal capital. The small town, with a population of 8,096,[1] is the beginning of an ancient trade route to Ladakh and from there over the Karakoram Pass on to Yarkand and Khotan in the Tarim Basin. It is a popular tourist destination and serves as the gateway to Lahaul and Spiti district as well as Leh.

CLIMATE
The climate in Manali is predominantly cold during winter and moderately cool during summer. The temperatures range from 4 °C (39 °F) to 26 °C (79 °F) over the year. The average temperature during summer is between 10 °C (50 °F) and 26 °C (79 °F), and between −15 °C (5 °F) and 12 °C (54 °F) in the winter.

  1. HIDIMBA DEVI TEMPLE | MANALI

    Hidimbi Devi Temple, locally known as Dhungiri Temple,[1] also known variously as the Hadimba Temple, is located in Manāli, a hill station in the State of Himāchal Pradesh in north India. It is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, wife of Bhima, a figure in the Indian epic Mahābhārata. The temple is surrounded by a cedar forest called Dhungiri Van Vihar at the foot of the Himālayas. The sanctuary is built over a huge rock jutting out of the ground which was worshiped as an image of the deity. The structure was built in 1553.

  2. Solang Valley

    Solang Nala (Valley) derives its name from combination of words Solang (Nearby village) and Nullah (water stream). It is a side valley at the top of the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India 14 km northwest of the resort town Manali on the way to Rohtang Pass, and is known for its summer and winter sport conditions. The sports most commonly offered are parachuting, paragliding, skating and zorbing.

  3. Museum of Himachal Culture and Folk Art

    Museum of Himachal Culture and Folk Art is a stone's throw from Hidimba Devi Temple at Manali. It is located 2-3 km from Manali main town. The Museum was established in 1998 to collect and exhibit cultural and folk art antiques articles of Himachal Pradesh. But the initiative to collect articles of traditional values from all over Himachal began long time back in 1990. The Museum is housed at Utopia complex. J.R. Sood who founded the Museum traveled throughout the State to research, and collect ancient antique items. The Museum has an admirable collection of rare and almost extinct articles, which belonged to the forgotten era.

  4. Jalori Pass Trek

    Located at a distance of about 151 kilometres from Shimla , Kullu, Jalori Pass is positioned away from the hustle and bustle of the tedious city life. The serene ambiance rendered by mighty Himalayas presents unmatched opportunities to unwind the body and savour the nature's exquisite. The seasonal flowers bloomed in the region along with the exotic flora and fauna in the midst of immaculate solitude of highlands relaxes the senses of every trekker. Trekking on this beautiful trail takes the tourists to the mesmerizing places like Shoja, Sereolsar Lake, Sakiran, Lambri, Bashleo and the Great Himalayan National Park.

  5. Bijli Mahadev Trek

    Bijli Mahadev is one of the sacred temples of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at an altitude of about 2,460m in the Kullu Valley. Bijli Mahadev is one of the excellent temples in India. Located 22 km from Kullu across the Beas river, it can be approached by a rewarding trek of 3 km.
    A panoramic view of Kullu and Paravati valleys can be seen from the temple. The 60 feet high staff of Bijli Mahadev temple glistens like a silver needle in the sun.
