Player Profile: Kusal Mendis
It is always a nice sight when the young steps up to the stage unassisted and ready to roar on. This is usually the case when it comes to the game of cricket. Every year, we have a great cricket player who is young and simply amazing. When it comes to cricket players who are currently young and still on fire, there is exactly just one person who comes to mind. That person is no doubt be Kusal Mendis. Who is this player and what are some of the strides which he has taken to distinguish himself from the crowd? Let's see if we can find out
Who is Kusal Mendis?
Mendis is currently a cricket player and plays for his country, Sri Lanka. The great part of his story would no doubt be his present age. Kusal Mendis is only 25 years, having being born in 1995. At this point, at such a young age, he is already on his way up in the ICC rankings. His call to the national side was quite a fast way. The history books say that it took Kusal just 16 games playing in the first-class position to join the national team.
Another great thing about Kusal is the fact that he can play in all formats of the game. This means that irrespective of the game which is on play, he always has a role to play for his team. This surely has shown over time and has won the admiration of others. No wonder that in 2017, he was privileged to win the batsman of the year when it came to the ODI matches for his country. As a young person, he has also managed to win other international awards such as the best SLC future player amongst others. There’s no doubt what’s awaiting this guy in the future.
His first foray on the international scene would be as a captain for the junior side. This was just 5 years ago at the Under 19 side. After that, his career with Sri Lanka and domestically took off. He would get to play tours and take them. His debut in the ODI scene would come about 2 years later when Sri Lanka took on Ireland. In that same year, he would also go on to make his debut in the T20I.
His first Test series game would be one in which he would forever remember. In that game which was played against Australia, he would go on to score a century in that game making sure his name was stamped into the history books. Other fine performances which he has played a part would be against Bangladesh and also Zimbabwe.
When it comes to Kusal, there is no doubt that Sri Lanka has a genius on their hands. It is only a matter of time as it stands right now until he makes it to the very top of the list. That would be quite exciting, to say the least.
