A Coffee Shop adventure with a twist

When I am in the mood to get out of the house and I have a little bit of time to kill, I love adventuring on foot around the centre of town, which is about a fifteen minute drive from where we stay. I don't get to go exploring all that often, but when I do, I am always rewarded with a gem or two.

When you drive along the Hermanus coastline which includes a portion of the world renowned eleven kilometer Cliff Path, on the opposite side of the road you are greeted with some of the most majestic looking houses, hotels and accommodation spots in the area.

It is a total feast for the eyes and an absolutely stunning stretch of road to drive as well as walk. I had not really paid much attention to the buildings along that stretch because we are normally driving and I am passenger, so I am looking at the ocean, lol - but in between all the buildings I spotted what appeared to be a little coffee shop.

The front side of The Bistro overlooks the view I have shared below, so when the weather is good, you really could not ask for a more idyllic place to spend a couple of hours enjoying a meal.

The weather has however been getting pretty chilly lately, so I headed indoors. Not a particularly large place, but you are literally smacked in the face with eye candy and character the second you walk through the doors - as well as a bit of a surprise, discovering that this is not really your average bistro.

Inside the bistro there is actually an adjoining shop called Just Pure and anybody who can walk through those front doors and not be magnetised toward this delightful little space is definitely stronger than I am in will power, haha!

Just Pure is a natural, eco-conscious product range which are all made from only the best natural ingredients. Their ethos is "what goes on the body is as important as what we put in the body". All their products are made around the corner in Hermanus, using only locally sourced ingredients.

Their primary focus is skincare products for both men and women but the shop has plenty of other delightful stuff to browse. As far as the product range goes, it is impressively extensive - with everything from cleansers, toners, moisturisers and treatments to soaps, hand washes, hair care products, lotions, oils, balms and a whole lot more! Their online store is really impressive and easy to browse, offering international shipping too.

Just for a little insight into the detail of their ethics and approach to their product creation - you can expect the following from them and their range - free of parabens, colorants, free of endocrine disrupting substances, free of SLS, they use only mild food grade preservatives, natural perfume – steam distilled therapeutic-grade essential oils, GMO free, plant-based food-grade cold pressed oils of high quality, vegan friendly, cruelty free, recycled and reusable minimal packaging, sustainability and respect for the earth.

Once I had taken a good gander around the shop, I grabbed a table and decided to have a bite to eat. There were quite a few things on the menu which appealed to me, but two of the items on their specials board caught my attention too. Sadly, the quiche was already sold out - because that would definitely have been my first choice... so I opted for the second in line which was their soup of the day - Creamy Potato and Sorrel which was served with a massive slice of sourdough toast and butter. It was absolutely DIVINE!

I have to say that the restaurant side of things seems to echo very much the same ethos as the shop in that fresh produce and quality are top priorities! Also, the portion sizes were very generous, I actually couldn't finish my bowl of soup... despite putting in my best effort!

I always thought that Cape Town had a lot to offer in terms of unique places to visit but I have to say that I am repeatedly blown away by the absolute brilliance of the places discover around here - and they just keep coming! This was such a terrific little gem and I would love to try out some of their products some time soon too! I love what they stand for and also the fact that their range is shipped internationally. Really a super discovery and I will most certainly be visiting again!
