Beer Review

Myrcenary is an 9.3% Imperial/Double IPA brewed by Odell Brewing Co. in Fort Collins, Colorado. Odell Brewing Co. is an independent, employee owned craft brewer that has been in operation since 1989. It all started with Doug Odell, his wife Wynne, and his sister Corkie, but has grown into a 30 year strong craft beer establishment. A family friend of mine living out in Colorado decided to send me some Myrcenary Double IPAs to try out. Myrcenary is brewed with a blend of hops containing the highest levels of Myrcene (hence the name). It's the first beer I've tried from Odell Brewing Co.

The Can

Myrcenary is served in a 12 ounce can. It has a a beige background and features a guy riding away in a motorcycle with a bag full of hops in the sidecar. The side of the can reads:

Brewed with a blend of hops containing the highest levels of Myrcene, a component of essential oils in the hop flower, this double IPA prevails with a tropical fruit-like flavor, a pungent floral aroma, and a clean getaway.

The Beer

Myrcenary had a clear, light orange color when I poured it into a glass. It formed a solid head of foam as you can see in the photo above. The had a crisp, refreshing flavor for a beer with over 9% alcohol by volume. The floral, hoppy taste was strong, but not overwhelming. Overall, it was a drinkable DIPA, but it certainly wasn't on the level of a New England juice bomb. I look forward to trying more beers from Odell Brewing Co. in the future.
