Okeechobee Music & Art Festival 2018#
Camping festival The Okeechobee Music & Art Festival is known by locals as the time of year for just a moment their small quiet backwoods town turns into a raging city for four nights. It’s prepared for like any other kind of hurricane, Christmas or Alien invasion. Locals make plans to leave their quiet homes to get away from the booming noise of the bass that creates waves in surrounding swamp lands. While some locals enjoy their porches, and listen for something different in the distance besides the same chirping of nature around them, other locals could be seen partaking in the festivities and some even landed an extra paying gig. Making 2018 the 3rd year to take on crowds full of high-energy, life-craving, entertainment-junkies ready to make this year the year they find the light of euphoria and touch it.
For four nights and four days they held open discussions for people wanting to discuss different topics from climate change to cleaning our oceans. They displayed some incredible sculptures and art work that was incredible, along with so many other remarkable things they had going on. I didn’t get a picture of it, but it was awesome how many came out to do some yoga together.
You could swim in the lake and hang out on a sandy beach while enjoying music. There was so much to do and not enough time to experience it all.
I give major props to those pushing to keep the event clean by giving everyone recycle bags and giving them incentives to recycle anything they find throughout the event, fill their bags, bring them back to the booth to receive rewards of their choice. If you collected enough they would even reward you with tickets to the festival for the following year.
Unfortunately, I got sick early on so I inevitably missed out on a lot of the main shows including The Flaming Lips, Snoop Dogg and Halsey. ☹ So again… my experience was lacking as far as the main shows go, yet I was still able to walk the entire map reaching well over 25,000 steps in one evening and enjoyed most of the wonderful things the festival had to offer. I must also apologize for my pictures though, I had to use my really old point and shoot camera. See below the wonders… if you can look past the many shaken and unbalanced shots. 😉

***** Welcome to my wonderful (way in the back of VIP) tent/car space, in which we spent many hours hiding from the sun in my car. :)
The best neighbors you could ask for while experiencing an event like this. There really are incredible people out there, you mostly just overlook them.
We are looking forward to next year and I'm sure we will be more prepared now that we now what to expect. Between 9am - 4pm expect a lot of sun so umbrella and sunscreen are a must, bring extra cooler and a LOT of ice and be prepared to cook your own food and arrive to event earlier so I'm not setting up a tent at night. :) Otherwise, we will be ready to enjoy the festival for our second year and the festivals fourth year running. :)
