Old City of Dubrovnik, Croatia.....

d5DHFtWjWXiWEOnytIxqO0tgMUHDNAcBKx2oCqHavW8.jpgI went in late April this year. It's lovely walking up and down the narrow stairways all around the old city. The city is right on the water so you can walk down to cliff side restaurants or climb up to the fort.
You can find some nice little restaurants on the side streets too.
The fact that it's a basis for a major city in Game of Thrones makes it cool if you're into that.

The whole Old City area of Dubrovnik is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. I'd fully recommend for anyone who visits, take the cable car up into the hills and go to the look-out. There's a fantastic video there of how Dubrovnik was damaged during the wars of the 90s (almost every rooftop in town was hit by mortar fire

And South - Kotor in Montenegro has a lot of the same feel. It is a fraction of the price, and the Bay of Kotor is fun to explore. Kotor can be just as 'touristy' as Dubrovnik when cruise ship passengers show up in masses, but still far more affordable. The same general feel - a walled, pedestrian-only city with lots of sites and stores and restaurants, on a bit smaller of a scale.
