WALK through the Capitol: Vientiane, LAOS
It's pretty hot here compared to Luang Prabang, but sometimes you have to come here if you live in Laos. It's not as hot or chaotic as Bangkok, the Big Mango, though. I took a twelve hour bumpy bus ride down to Thailand and back for a visa run plus about 10 hours of walking around this city because the sleeping bus doesn't leave until 20:00. Soon the Chinese high-speed rail will be finished and this arduous ride of pain will be a thing of the past.
I've tried taking this shot several times, but it really came out great this time. I was using my iPad Pro (first generation) with the sun to my back laying down at 10 am for this one. This has been here for over a thousand years.
Putting the smaller jedi, the pointy thing, in front of the main one, made it look more impressive and you get to see the brick work.
As you can see, it isn't as cool looking without something in front of it giving it perspective.
These flowers look so nice that they take away the ugly cell phone tower in the blurry background.
This was a nice historic hotel that was preserved nicely.
I'm sure that two hundred years ago, seeing this beautiful French architecture while everyone else was living in bamboo huts, would've been quite the experience.
I thought it would look cool to have flowers in the front and some ugly human corporate technology in the background. It is a reflection of this city. Full of natural beauty with lazy ugly human construction everywhere ruining it.
If you're ever meeting up with someone in Vientiane, then these flags are a great place to do that. They are by the river and have a great view of Thailand. Many families and locals will come here at sunset.
It was super hot and I was supposed to meet my buddy Ben, but he never showed up.
I figured something bad must have happened to him or his phone died, so I checked out this temple.
Temples are always hard to shoot. I always have to crop and rotate them.
I got one of their elephants in the perfect light though.
This abandoned construction site was interesting. When I lived in Bangkok in 2009, I had this pack of twenty street dogs that would follow me everywhere because I loved them since they were pups. We would go up and explore abandoned buildings like this and I'd have a smoke like a champ at the top. The dogs weren't scared because I was with them and I wasn't scared because they were with me and at least three of them were real alphas.
Here's an abandoned museum that nature is slowly taking back.
I finally ran into Ben. Someone had stolen his phone so that's why I didn't meet him at the flags. We took a good selfie, but this Lao dude in the background seems confused.
We met at the Vientiane Center Mall.
We had some food, beer, and good laughs at the food court. I couldn't believe that Star Wars wasn't playing here. They love Marvel in Asia, but care less about the Force.
Thanks for walking through the capitol with us today. Have a great day!
