June 6, 2020--Practice blog in the time of the virus
Lots accomplished today. We got up this morning and had a good breakfast of eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, and oranges. Watched one of our favorite shows on Saturday mornings called Lucky Dog (a "reality" show about a dog trainer who matches rescue dogs with families and trains the dogs for the situations). Went to practice organ for a little while before making a run to Target for some essentials. Will not do that on a Saturday afternoon again. Less than half of the customers didn't have masks on, and a lot were hugging and ignoring social distance protocols. I am trying to be observant of them, but it needs to be a two way street. I think early morning (9 am) runs on Tuesday or Thursday will be more frequent in the coming weeks. Came home and mowed the yard and put fertilizer on the grass. About two weeks late, but better late than never. Went for a two mile walk with my wife and came home to make dinner. While boiling the chicken, I got some practice on the piano in and recorded the piece I am playing for the postlude at tomorrow's service (see above). Going to relax this evening.
On the organ, I worked on BWV 633 (prelude for tomorrow), BWV 634 (for next week's SOOP contest), played through the first four movements of the Couperin Mass for the Convents, played at a slow tempo the Kauffmann pieces I have been working on, and started a fourth one (cannot think of it's name right now). Finished with a half tempo run through of the Bach Fugue BWV 536.
On the piano, I started working on the Chopin A minor waltz, played through several pieces I have been working on this summer, and recorded this Mark Hayes arrangement to see how it "really" sounds away from the piano. I have come to the realization that the recordings always sound slower than I feel I am playing it in real time.
