The tallest statue in America! and it remains in Venezuela

 Unlike what most people think, the Statue of Liberty located in New York, United States, is not the tallest statue that exists in America. The tallest statue wins him by only 0.67 meters in height. This statue is the Monument to the Virgin of Peace or simply Virgin of Peace, is located in the City of Trujillo, Venezuela. It has a height of 46.72 meters and weighs about 1200 tons. Its construction took approximately 18 months.

 In addition to having that imposing height, the whole of the statue is at an altitude of 1,600 meters above sea level, thus leaving a magnificent view on a clear day of almost the entire state of Trujillo, part of the Sierra Nevada de Mérida (Mérida is a state neighbor) and the south coast of Lake Maracaibo.

The name of the monument, the place and the Virgin makes reference to the legend of its appearance. On the hill called Peña de la Virgen, according to legend, which was set at the end of the 1550s, the image of the Virgin Mary appeared to several neighbors of the town of Carmona.
The monument fulfills the function of an extraordinary viewpoint: ascending inside the statue, through stairs that fill the interior of the statue, visitors can stop at each of the five viewpoints: four viewpoints that look for the four cardinal points, and a fifth at eye level. Many visitors prefer to stay in the first viewpoints and not ascend to the highest, due to the feeling of vertigo that produces the unusual height.

 The height is counted from the base of the statue without counting the pedestal, that's why the Virgin of peace (46.72 m) is taller than the Statue of Liberty (46.05 m) only by centimeters.
